It was announced Thursday evening that the SEC will adopt an eight game conference schedule in 2024 once the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners join the conference. Commissioner Greg Sankey and the rest of the SEC were deciding between two potential models: one that would maintain three rivalries and one that would only maintain one. In the eight game schedule, only one permanent rival remains every year on each SEC team's schedule.
For LSU, that one permanent opponent will be the Texas A&M Aggies. Therefore, LSU-Ole Miss, LSU-Alabama, LSU-Florida, and all of the other traditional rivals that are stitched into the fabric of the history of LSU Tigers football will not be annual matchups.
