ESPN has developed its own system to predict the success of college football teams, known as the ESPN Football Power Index. The Football Power Index, known as FPI, combines a countless number of factors such as returning production, recruiting class ranking, strength of schedule, etc. into ESPN's model and gives each team its power index. This year, the FPI loves LSU.
Per ESPN's FPI for 2023, LSU is the 4th ranked team in the nation behind only Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia with the Texas Longhorns rounding out the top five.
