Description

Struggling with Binge Eating is already a battle in itself but what if you struggle with IBS? It may seem like you've been dealt a bad hand - what is causing the issue? Is the IBS worsening the binge eating or the binge eating worsening the IBS?
*It is also important to make sure that your IBS is diagnosed by your doctor as we cannot self-diagnose IBS. There is no diagnostic test for IBS but if you are having gut symptoms similar to IBS such as bloating, abdominal cramping, and changing in stool habit, speak to your doctor in order for them to first rule out any other gastrointestinal conditions.
The 3 tips that will help improve your IBS and binge eating:
1. Ensure you are eating regular meals and avoid skipping meals – Aim for 3 meals a day and snacks in between consistently – breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, evening meal, and maybe an evening snack. Evidence shows this is effective in helping reduce IBS symptoms and hunger.
2. Pay attention to your stress levels – The gut and our brain are very closely linked and people with IBS have gut hypersensitivity. A stressful episode can lead to worsened IBS symptoms and make us more vulnerable to a binge episode.
3. Avoid making any drastic changes to your diet – Avoid going on certain diets or avoid going from one extreme to another such as a binge to eating only vegetables and fruits! I would like to say that our guts love consistency so aim for a sustainable diet that you enjoy!
