Effectiveness of Mathematics Tricks for Primary School Students

Abstract

Mathematics can be used to introduce and explain events and occurrences that have a firmly rooted foundation of logic. An exploratory study was conducted to investigate the use of trick activities in a math course for prospective primary school students. It was created to explain a simple mathematical trick that has existed and allows them to improve upon it by modifying it with simple logic. The method used in this research was an experimental research design with a non-equivalent control group design. Data collection was done by test technique of students’ cognitive learning outcomes. Data analysis techniques in this study used instrument tests in the form of validity and reliability tests and hypothesis tests in the form of independent sample t-tests. The results show that the mathematics trick learning method influenced students’ cognitive learning outcomes in mathematics, especially in adding fractions with different denominators. This Mathematics trick learning method effectively improves understanding of the basic addition of fractions with unlike denominators.

Therefore, mathematics is particularly important to be taught to students and must be able to be well received and enjoyable.
