The Woman Who Wins - Francisca Amarh
THE DECEPTIONS
The call of womanhood is deep, purposeful and broad. It is a beautiful thing yet challenging and full of responsibilities. In Africa for instance, when a male child is born, he is given high recognition and the family takes pride in their achievement. If it is a female child however, the reaction is the opposite. Thankfully, women are beginning to climb up the ladder and we anticipate the day when society will rid itself of male chauvinism and give women their rightful place. The effect of this ideology is a group of people who feel inferior and embrace the concept of the ‘weaker vessels’ they are known to be.
The woman has been known since time immemorial to be the principal cause of the fall of man. This can be traced to the disobedience of Eve, the deception of Rebekah, the betrayal of Delilah, as well as the wickedness of Jezebel. Some have also been put in this category because their actions were misconstrued; like the wife of Job. Because of this weight, she is constantly searching for a place where she can offload the guilt and find rest. She embraces every opportunity that comes her way in order to fit in and to portray that she is not exactly what she is considered to be.
In an attempt to find reasons why some things did not go well and in finding consolation for her loss, A woman may settle for the deception that her pain is peculiar. The reality that every woman has her ashes has become an illusion.
I often get this response whenever I try to talk a sister out of her pain and bitterness. Some even refuse to give me audience because all they keep saying are ‘you just don’t understand’. In fact, I may really not understand because my pain is probably deeper than yours or vice versa. This statement has become the foundation for many to build a shelter of hopelessness and envy. The see their fellows in their ‘nice packages’ but their inability to see the content, causes them to misjudge them. Because of their appearances, they assume whatever they have achieved is on a silver platter. They believe that they wouldn’t have made it this far if their stories were like theirs. The next time you are tempted to think along this line, I want you to keep in mind that a pearl is a product of pain
. The". The oyster is irritated whenever a particle of sand or other material gets inside the shell. The attempt by the oyster to protect her soft body from the irritation object; thereby covering it results in a beautiful pearl. In a simple description, a pearl is a healed wound. An oyster which has not been hurt does not grow a pearl. Pain by all standards is unpleasant nevertheless, our ability to go through graciously makes us stronger and an inspiration to others. It may seem like a punishment but in reality it is only a process to make it to the next
