Summary of 8 Rules of Love by Jay shetty - Willie M. Joseph

Introduction

The most important details in this text are that love is a daily habit that requires consistent care and attention. It is said that the greatest pursuit of human life is to love and to be loved, but many of us have experienced disappointments in love. To develop the habit of love, the text introduces practices, mindsets, and tools that will help us love in a way that brings daily rewards. Romantic love is complex and has been seen and described in many ways across time and cultures. Psychologist Tim Lomas identified fourteen unique kinds of love, including Eros, Philia, Storge, Agape, Ludus, Pragma, and Philautia.

Our own culture describes love in numerous ways, such as love as grace, love within a fulfilling relationship, and a melting inside due to a feeling of love. This book aims to help readers experience the expansive love that they hope exists. The Vedas are the oldest Hindu scriptures, written on palm leaves more than a thousand years ago. The author has been studying them for sixteen years and has shared their wisdom with people around the world through podcasts, books, and videos. He has also certified more than two thousand coaches and used wisdom from the Vedas to form the concepts in this book.

He draws from the guidance of the Vedas, from what has worked with his clients, from his own travels, and from what he learned with his fellow monks. He loves the intersection of modern science and ancient wisdom. The most important details in this text are that the practice of love is all around us, but it can be hard to learn from friends and family who themselves are just winging it. Most of the advice on love is caught up in how to find Mr. or Ms. Right, but this book is not about finding the perfect person or relationship and leaving the rest to chance. Instead, it is about creating a love that grows every day, expanding and evolving rather than achieved and complete. The Vedas describe four stages of life, and these are the classrooms in which we will learn the rules of love so that we can recognize and make the most of it when it comes our way.

Love is a series of steps, stages, and experiences that chart a clear path forward. The four classrooms of Brahmacharya, Grhastha, Vanaprastha ashram, and Sannyasa ashrams are described as a school of learning, growth, and support. Each ashram brings us to a different level of love, such as preparing for love, practicing love, and understanding, appreciating, and cooperating with another mind. The four ashrams of Grhastha, Vanaprastha, Sannyasa, and Bhagavad Gita are important for learning the lessons of love. Grhastha teaches how to know if you're in love, how to learn and grow with your partner, how to set priorities and manage personal time and space within your relationship, and how to protect and protect yourself and your ability to love.

Vaprastha is a healing place where we retreat to seek peace, while Sannyasa teaches us how to extend our love to everyone and how to love again and again. Many of us pass through these four ashrams without learning the lessons they present, as we resist being alone and miss out on the growth that solitude offers. This book follows the order of four ashrams: preparing for love, practicing love, protecting love, and perfecting love. It outlines eight rules to learn and develop to move from one ashram to the next: two rules to prepare for love, three rules to practice love, two rules to protect love, and one rule to strive toward perfect love. Each of these rules helps you develop a mindset for love, whether you are single, in a relationship, or breaking up.

It also provides techniques to help you work through loneliness, let go of expectations, nurture intimacy, and heal from heartbreak. Radhi and I proposed to each other on a beautiful spring evening in 2014. I bought
