    INTRODUCTION

Not knowing proper nutrition can lead to health deterioration or even fatality. We need to know how to use food to produce healthy beings, maintain our health, and restore to good health when it fails.Achieving this means understanding what nutrition is required to acquire and keep desired health.

Food is more than the satisfaction of hunger. Food is the material the body uses to repair and maintain itself, hence the importance of knowing what foods to eat, in what combination and why. Therefore, knowing the properties of foods will also empower us in making daily healthy dietary decisions.

Each food has its unique properties. One food cannot replace or substitute another. The difference in food properties highlights in their colours, smell and taste. It is their chemical properties that give each food its unique colour, taste and smell.

These chemical properties are essential nutrients for sustenance and repairs. Their fundamental functions are to produce cells, enzymes, hormones, tissues and muscles. Each food has specific nutrients that aid digestion, transportation, absorption, and utilization of other food nutrients. Hence, when we eat different whole foods in combination, they interact with each other, working synergistically for health benefits. The synergic properties of food combinations maximize nutritional benefits up to ten times making foods ten times more beneficial when eaten in combination than individually.

When foods interact, the resulting chemical reactions are what the body uses to produce essential body chemicals that promote fast and effective absorption and utilization, or the production of needed tissues.

Misconception and misinformation have manifested themselves in food choices to eat or eliminate from the diet, resulting in excluding beneficial foods for maintaining good health. The bases for many other diet choices are fads or what is popular at the time.

This book aims at providing a simple way to develop excellent nutritional habits that maintain good health. It details the primary food groups, their nutritional values and health benefits. Included is information that dispels misconceptions and misinformation. A tested and proven diet formula is shared, supplement suggestion, and the correct approach to nutrition and supplement choices and why we need them are some topics discussed. This book also includes meal plans and illustrations to use as models when preparing meals. There are also several juice suggestions.

    NUTRITION

Oxford Dictionary defines nutrition as the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth. Foods here denote nutriment or as nourishing, and when served conveys nourishment to the recipient. Therefore, the recipient should become nourished, and exhibits this through the manifestation of good or improved health. Hence, instances of ill health likely highlight the absence of specific relevant food(s).

    The Four Primary Nutrients

Human nutrition consists of four primary nutrient categories - carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and water. These categories are sub-divided into micronutrients, namely vitamins, minerals or elements, phytonutrients, fatty acids, and amino acids. Micronutrients are further identified by types. Examples are antioxidants and phenols. All nutrients are essential in adequate amounts to sustain good health. They serve to build-up, repair, and maintain normal body functions.

    Carbohydrate

Carbohydrate, one of the three macronutrients that supply the body with energy, is a group of organic compounds, including sugars, starches and fibre. In living thing, it fills many roles including:

Storage and energy transport (e.g., starch, glycogen)

Structural components (e.g., cellulose in plants, chitin and cartilage in animals)

Additionally, carbohydrates and their derivatives play significant roles in the immune system's working process and its functions, fertilization,
