We have summarized the essential of this book by the author.

Sociology is a science, for Bourdieu, since and insofar as he distanced himself from social philosophy. That is, to the extent that it appropriated CONCEPTS, METHODS, CONSISTENT SYSTEMS OF HYPOTHESIS AND VERIFICATION PROCEDURES.
Not all sociologists deserve the name of scientists because the methodology varies from author to author, getting GRADUALLY closer, some more than others, to the ideal of scientific verification.
However, it is common for them to question the scientific character of sociology, even in the cases of greater methodological rigor, and attack it because many of the statements that this science makes uncomfortable (because sociology calls into question the other sciences).

    AWKWARD SCIENCE

Sociology is a science , for Bourdieu, since and insofar as he distanced himself from social philosophy.

SOCIOLOGY IS ACCUSED OF CREATING PROBLEMS

SOCIOLOGY CAUSES PROBLEMS when it reveals hidden things about social mechanisms that will later be incorporated by political protests in the broadest sense.

Bourdieu gives the example of society's use of the word intelligence. He usually calls intelligence the ability of a person to solve problems (a math problem, a domestic problem, etc.). Understood in this way, it can be believed that the fact that a person is intelligent depends on his will to be so, since we can solve problems (that have a solution) if we really want to, even if it means trying and making mistakes as many times as necessary. If being smart were so accessible to everyone, rich or poor, then it would be fair to reward the smartest, as universities do, because they earned it with their effort.

This same concept of intelligence can also be understood like this: if being intelligent is EQUALLY within the reach of anyone, rich or poor, then why do some stand out more than others? Because they were born smarter (they didn't choose it).

In either case, the socioeconomic conditions of a person do not determine in any way the level of intelligence of that person.

But sociology denounces this conception of hiding the true meaning of the word as it is used: when intelligence is rewarded in a school, what is valued is the cultural background that children or adolescents learned from their family (CAPITAL CULTURAL INHERITED). And therefore the selection mechanism that governs schools hinders, rather than facilitates, social mobility.

To lovers of bourgeois democracy, who do not see a problem in the division of social classes precisely because
