ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I am a firm believer that we must give credit where credit is due.
I hope the reader does not believe or even think that I in any way want to take credit for the vast majority of what is in this book.
What I have learned about life, I learned from the great minds that were here long before me.
I firmly believe that we have an obligation to pass our knowledge and experience to the younger generations.
I would like to thank each and everyone that has contributed in any way to the information in the book.
Life can be so beautiful if we just give it a chance.
INTRODUCTION
My hope in writing this book is to help as many people as possible to avoid mistakes we make in our daily lives and understand what we must do to get along with each other. I know I have made my share of mistakes, and that is o.k. the problem I had as a young man was to own up to my mistakes, whether they were words or actions. Looking back, I can see where a simple apology and asking for forgiveness would have been the easy way. You know what they say about hindsight.
Before we start with the different relationships we are involved in, we must understand and overcome two subjects in almost every type of relationship we are in.
First, what we must do is to learn to take responsibility for our words and our actions. We must learn to admit our mistakes.
Second, we must learn to apologize more and quit making excuses or blaming others for our problems. Learn to forgive yourself for mistakes in life and ask for forgiveness from others you have hurt. Looking back at my own life, I can see where I fell short of this many times (as I am sure my brothers and sisters would agree). As parents, we must teach our children to take responsibility for their actions at the earliest time possible. If you truly love them, you will do this because you will make their lives much easier as they grow older. I was very fortunate that we had a wonderful mother who taught us this at an early age; of course, it took a little extra effort in my case.
THINGS I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT LIFE
(From People Smarter Than I Am)
I have learned there are three stages in our lives: the past, the present, and the future.
The past is the only one of the three we cannot change.
I have learned that if you want to receive true love from the heart, you must give true love from the heart.
I have learned that if you cheat someone, you are only cheating yourself.
I have learned that it is better to say I love you than assume that person knows you do.
I have learned that just in case today is all we have left, tell the ones you love, how you feel, and why you feel this way.
I have learned that none of us have been promised tomorrow, so make the most of what you have today.
I have learned that no matter how much I care, some people just don’t care.
I have learned not to be jealous of others; they may be more screwed up than I am and have much bigger problems.
I have learned that growing old is a high price to pay for patience and common sense.
I have learned that people we care about are taken from us much too soon, and the people that are a pain in the ass are here forever
I have learned that it takes a lot to discourage a man with character.
I have learned that if you have an open mind, this will open doors, and if you have a closed mind, this will close doors.
I have learned that loyalty is great to receive from friends and loved ones, but it is just as great to be loyal to friends and loved ones.
I have learned that real love given or received comes from deep in the heart and not from the mind.
I have learned that if you act with love and kindness, you will receive love and kindness
I have learned that sometimes all a person needs or wants is for someone to listen.
I have learned that being honorable, not wealthy, will get you what we all want; respect.
I have learned that if you miss a good opportunity, someone will be there to take it.
I have learned that when you are bitter and negative in life, happiness will pass you by.
I have learned that we should keep our words both soft and tender because tomorrow, we may have to eat them.
I have learned that we must not dwell on the past, the good, the bad, or the ugly.
I have learned that if I condone evil, I am evil.
I have learned that it is my responsibility to control my mind, mouth, and actions.
I have learned that if I had listened more and talked less in the past, I would be a much wiser man today
I have learned that the kinder I am towards my friends and loved ones, the kinder they will be towards me.
I have learned that to be happy, you must open your mind and heart.
You are born, and you die. In between is your life; do good things with it.
I have learned that living with integrity, being accountable for your mistakes, and being respectful of others puts you in a very special class of people.
I have learned to make choices based on what I think is best for me, not on what others think is best for me.
I have learned that most of the major problems in our lives we created.
I have learned that the longer I live, the dumber I was.
