    Introduction

You may be wondering why someone who is not a professional fitness trainer or medical expert decided to pen a book on sustainable health and achievable fitness. My passion for this topic originated in my adolescence.

To regard me now, people would not know I was an overweight child. My weight wasn’t just a physiological problem; it affected every aspect of my existence, particularly my self-assurance and sense of personal identity. I was ridiculed at school and made to feel less than by my peers. This experience eroded my confidence and my enjoyment in normal young teen pursuits. If you too have struggled with weight issues for a long time, you have probably experienced the same phenomenon of having your entire persona hijacked by your body image.

Society proposes many synonyms for the state of carrying excess weight, some more pejorative than others, but none of them ageless: chubby, big boned, rotund, corpulent, curvy, plump, Rubenesque, and horizontally challenged. No matter how you may attempt to put a kinder spin on it, however, it boils down to feeling and looking fat and knowing that most of the world views you that way too.

It wasn’t until I reached young adulthood that I became dedicated to changing my weight. I cast off the misconception that I need remain heavy for the rest of my life. At age 15, I resolved to reshape my body, creating an individualized exercise program and adopting an improved diet. That dedication was the foundation for transformation, and it resulted in a slimmer physique and healthier lifestyle, which I’ve managed to maintain.

Twenty years have elapsed since I took a stand against obesity, ill health, and an impaired self-image. I’ve shared accounts of my accomplishment with colleagues as a means to motivate them on their own journeys towards better health. Now, it is my pleasure to pass that information on to you as well.

Counseling others, mentoring, and driving innovation are key aspects of my current work life. Therefore it seems an organic next step for me to assemble my approach to health improvement in book format. As a trailblazer in information technology, operations management, corporate strategy, and cyber security, I’ve had the opportunity to pull together seemingly disparate elements of business into a cohesive whole to launch products and create new blueprints that align business goals with windows for success.

This guide, Great Body, Healthy Life: The Working Professional’s Guide to Weight Loss, Stress Relief, and Better Habits, takes a similar tack, assembling a wealth of information and tactics in one location to do the heavy lifting for you and increase your chance of a favorable outcome. All you have to do is show up, make a commitment, and follow the program, which gives you multiple options to tailor it to your unique needs and abilities.

Think of this book more as a philosophical manifesto and less of a dogmatic regimen for health and weight loss. While this program certainly provides specifics about diet, exercise, and other components of well-being, the overarching goal is to find balance in your life. I’ll talk about that more in future chapters, but know that a program that only works under limited conditions
