What is Meditation?
Meditation is an ancient technique that promotes relaxation, increased awareness, mental focus, clarity, and a sense of peace. Meditation helps one to focus the thought process. Many people associate the word meditation with certain religions and cultures, especially Buddhism and Hinduism; however, even Christianity has echoes of meditation phrases and rituals.
Meditation can be practiced by anyone, with or without a spiritual connection. Though it has spiritual origins and the primary use in the past was religious, meditation is now actively being explored as a way of reducing stress on the mind and body.
The typical human mind is always working, actively thinking and filtering the sensory input that constantly bombards us. Meditation works to slow down the occurrence of random thoughts and eventually stop them all together, which heightens the participant's awareness. With the recent emergence of scientific studies on how the mind can affect the body, interest in meditation has increased.
Meditation is a matter of focus, and that focus can be on anything. Therefore, the something that
