I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

CHAPTER ONE

Elite Headquarters, Zakaria.

Kristoff Banix sat down at the conference table, looking around at all the distinguished members of the Elite already present. Clearly, something was up. Something big. So what’s the deal? he asked, getting straight to the point as was his wont. Are we here for someone’s surprise birthday party?

The head of the Elite, Meredith Baxter, regarded him dourly. We’re waiting for someone.

God? Kristoff asked. Nobody got the joke.

An aide whispered something in Baxter’s ear. Send him in, Meredith instructed. She turned to the others. Our guest has arrived?

The doors opened.

Of all the people Kristoff might have expected to walk though those doors, never in a million light years would he have anticipated the one who did. There was no confusion as to his identity, however. That ginger hair, freckles and smug expression could belong to nobody else. "What is he doing here?!" Kristoff leapt to his feet.

Believe it or not, I was invited, Paul French replied, clearly enjoying Kristoff’s discomfiture.

Indeed he was, Meredith said coldly. "Take your seat, Mr. French. You too, Agent Banix."

Kristoff sat down, glowering. I take it he’s under arrest?

Not... exactly, Meredith noted. Kristoff’s frown deepened.

I’m here to make you all an offer you can’t refuse, Paul drawled.

And what would that be? Kristoff demanded.

The Syndicate, Paul noted. I can hand it to you on a plate. Lock, stock and barrel.

What? Kristoff snapped. You only just joined them a few months ago!

And yet I am already well on my way to becoming Julius Williams’ right-hand man, Paul purred. I could learn enough to bring down the greatest criminal organisation in the entire Spiridon Sector in one fell swoop - and I’m willing to give the Elite that information.
