He was extremely good-looking, Lisa thought. Tall, with a mass of curly, dark hair and striking hazel eyes that really did seem to follow you around the room. She wasn’t sure about the blue velvet suit, though. And the lace collar was a definite no-no. Still, what could you expect from a man born over 250 years ago?
‘Penny for your thoughts?’
Lisa jumped. She’d been so absorbed in Man in Blue that she hadn’t noticed someone joining her in front of the painting. ‘Sorry?’
The man now standing by her smiled. He was quite a contrast to the man she’d just been studying so intently. Blond rather than dark, with amazingly blue eyes, and decidedly better taste in clothing.
Even more pleasing, though, he was real.
‘Your face,’ he said. ‘It was quite a picture in itself. First you looked fascinated, then impressed, then… well, you looked quite suspicious actually.’
Lisa laughed. ‘It’s my job. I’m a new curator here. Actually…’ She screwed up her eyes as she struggled to remember her exact job title. ‘I’m the new junior assistant deputy under-curator. My name’s’ ‘Lisa.’
‘How did you know? Ah, I keep forgetting that.’ The man was pointing to the name tag pinned to her blouse.
‘I’m Drew.’ Then he gestured to the painting. ‘What do you think of our friend here?’
Lisa sighed. ‘Gorgeous. The painting, I mean. But then, it is by Gainsborough, and he is one of my favourite artists. Except…’ She frowned.
‘There’s that suspicious look again.’
‘It’s just… I can’t help feeling there’s something not quite right about it.’
