I grew up in South Yorkshire, England, before emigrating to South Australia at the age of sixteen. My writing ambitions began as a child, when I became notorious in my class for writing short horror stories that would probably have them calling in the child psychologists nowadays! I have written everything from non-fiction ebooks to published short fiction, and served as script editor on two proposed horror feature film scripts for an LA based director. In terms of fiction I have written dozens of novellas, including more than 70 stories in the "Ian's Gang" sci-fi adventure series. I still live in Queensland, where I work as a freelance writer.

NINE YEARS AGO

CHAPTER ONE

Rebecka? Elin Moodyson said worriedly. Rebecka? Are you alright back there?

I don't think so, Rebecka Liedeberg replied, somewhat groggily.

Just stay awake! Elin hollered loudly, loud enough to raise the dead, probably. For God's sake, stay awake!

The car Elin was driving was speeding as fast as she dare down the icy country lane, snow-covered woods all around her. Dusk was approaching, and Elin was praying she could find the little slip-road before darkness fell. Otherwise, she had almost zero chance of even finding it - or the isolated log cabin that served as their hidey-hole. Elin once more glanced back in fear and worry at Rebecka. Her best friend lay in the back seat, her eyes glassy, her left leg soaked in blood. Elin cursed herself. This 'game' hadn't exactly been a great success.

They'd targetted Carl Richardson, a wealthy businessman who practically owned the town of Alam on Zakaria. The guy should have been an easy mark to have some good old-fashioned life-and-career-destroying fun with, a twenty stone solid scumbag who was bent, a tax cheat, a bully and a philanderer. They'd caught him with his pants down, and sent the incriminating photos to his wife, expecting fireworks. Just not the fireworks they'd got. Richardson had murdered his wife, murdered the hooker they'd set him up with - and then he'd come after them. And now her best friend was lying in the back seat, at least one bullet in her leg and quite possibly bleeding to death.
