Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.
They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.
Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.
But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way—even if it kills her.
Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Best book I've read in the longest time. Riveting. Couldn't wait to return to the story. So many jaw dropping twists and turns! I hope the author's other books are equally as addicting!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What can I say? I was shocked. I was surprised. My jaw dropped in multiple occasions. I didn't want to stop reading. A mother protecting her daughter from the truth. A daughter angry, her life ruined from all the lies. An innocent son just wanting to know about the truth.

Despite the improbability that the police wouldn't immediately come to the door of the crazy woman Dylan's mom met when she showed up uninvited to a birthday party and made a scene, this was a great audiobook. Mental illness is a serious issue and the author is not demonizing it, he is just telling us a story what happens when you don't seriously deal with it.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The writing and narration were very good. The story is so hard to describe. I didn't expect this story to end well and it certainly doesn't. Maggie made so many mistakes in my opinion and a lot of what transpires could have been prevented had she done the right thing. The right thing would have been to lock Nina up in a nuthouse. The ending is so sad and I just felt empty after finishing listening to this story. I am giving the writing a 4 because it is very good; however, be prepared if you choose to read or listen to this it's a tough story.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Was definitely a great read. Kept me wanting to know more. The only complaint i have, is the age of the elderly woman. She was made way too frail for her age IMO. They acted as though she was 80, vs 60's.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A slow burn with an OK ending. I’m not upset I spend 11 hours listening to it, but it is not worth the hype it gets.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Didn’t live up to the hype, but I kept reading to figure out what the hype was. The twist wasn’t as twisty as I expected

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the book. Very good plotting. The narration made the book. Wonderful actress on audio. Now. I want to listen to all of her 90 narrations. Didn't like the ending. It was a fitting ending, however, I am a reader that lives in a fantasy land. I will not give it away...listen for yourselves!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved how we got to see the different perspectives between the characters during the same times in their lives.. I love that the author allows us to come to our own conclusions without spoon speeding us the answers. I love how right when I thought I was watching onto an upcoming twist or turn, he’d completely flip the script and give me something that I was NOT expecting. Loved the ending, as well. This book would not have felt complete if it had received the happily ever after ending… it ended exactly the way it was supposed to. I can’t wait to read more of his work.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book kept me interested all the way to the end and was well written.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was great. It didn't take me long to finish because it is so easy to follow, and the author does a nice job of keeping the suspense flowing throughout. There were a lot of flashbacks, but that worked well for this story. It was twisted tale
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I couldn’t determine where the truth lay until close to the end. So many twists and turns. This is the first book I have read by this author. I’m anxious to read more.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book captivated me! Very well written and audio produced.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fascinating! Coil, curl, wind & weave. Superbly original. Excellently narrated.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Was good but very dark almost creepy. Quite the twist.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This had potential, and it had a truly wonderful narrator but it has a slow start, unpleasant characters and drags out for at least twice as long as it needs to. I love long involved stories, but this is just unpleasantly monotonous with a truly awful main character. The twists were just enough to keep me engaged… but in the end I regret sticking it out. The ending has a molecule of satisfaction… but it’s not at all worth the slog to get to it.. and it’s bittersweet.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5LOVED it! I like a good, dark mystery, but can often come up with the plot twists before the end of the book. This one had a great lead up, with lots of guessing needed as to actually was the bad guy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was well written with some interesting twists. It does leave one a bit depressed throughout though, so reader beware.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book just went on for too long.
The writing as per other books of this author was entertaining and kept me going, but the story just wasn't all that good.
The narration was pretty good. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I've listened to in years! The narrator was wonderful too. Loved it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a very predictable book from the very beginning to the end. Every mysterious part you can pretty much figure out before the characters are done talking
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. It started off a bit slow for me, good batter towards the middle, and the ending upset me. Good thing she got caught but I feel like it was a lot of cat and mouse games, which made it longer than it needed to be.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow, all I can say is WOW! This was a great read. Highly recommend!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Really liked all the twists and turns until the anticlimactic end.
