About this audiobook

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let go until you reach the end.” —Laura Dave, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Thing He Told Me

A husband’s disappearance links two couples in this twisty thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Local Woman Missing, Mary Kubica

Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.

Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.

"Rich with detail and a mounting, almost suffocating sense of dread, Just the Nicest Couple is a dark and twisted exploration of loyalty, family, and how far we’ll go to protect the ones we love." —Andrea Bartz, New York Times bestselling author of We Were Never Here

I expected way more from this one. It wasn’t good, or ridiculously bad. It’s was ok. It was on the boring side, could’ve been better. Characters weren’t anything special, I dreaded Christina POV. I would recommend and wouldn’t reread. Was just ok.

“People say kind things about Christian and Lily all the time. Everyone thinks they're just the nicest couple.”

    Two couples...
    One missing husband...
    Secrets & Lies....

One morning Nina's husband Jake goes missing, and it seems no one knows what happened. As minutes turn into hours turn into days, Nina is comforted by her friends and neighbors, Lily, Christian, and her mom. However, is this comfort sincere or masking other intentions?

When I tell you LITERALLY everyone and their mama had a secret, I mean everyone! I'm surprised the cat didn't have a story to tell.

Truthfully I enjoyed this book, but it felt a little drawn out. Toward the end, I found myself saying, "Alright now, let's come on and find Jake."

Local Woman Missing was my first encounter with Mary Kubica, and I loved that book so much. I think I subconsciously compare all of her work to that book. As stated previously, I enjoyed this book, but I don't know where I will rank it among all her work until I finish her catalog.

Not sure why this book got so many five-star reviews. The voices of the narrators are almost unbearable; almost stopped listening to it just due to them however, kept going based on the high reviews of this storyline. The story was very slow to get going and then wrapped up in two chapters with a flat ending. I did not find it interesting and would not recommend it based on the thousands of other audiobooks that are available. Local Woman Missing by this same author was much much better.

    What a waste of time!
The dialogue is worthless. It was if the author needed to fill gaps and had the characters saying stupid things!
I don’t think I will read another of book written by her.

I didn’t like the male voice, and I hated the way the female said Jake.

Having read her other work, this almost seemed like it was one of her first EVER manuscripts pulled off the shelf due to publisher pressure, a quick ‘let me just write something’ or written by a ghost writer. It was predictable, offered little character development and honestly pretty annoying.

I always appreciate any writer’s creative effort to complete a novel, but this definitely wasn’t her best. If I didn’t already know the author this book would’ve turned me off from reading her work again. I’d suggest reading a different novel of hers to get a true feel of her style and stories.

Usually love this author but this time I felt the author put more time in developing characters that were not relevant and less time in developing characters that were. The ending felt rushed. Questions I had went unanswered. Pretty good but not the best

It was okay. I skipped ahead to the end. The round and round was making me angry lol

Painfully slow and there really was no deep investment in any of the characters.

The characters did a lot of unnecessary things and for nothing. The ending of the book was the best part. The last two chapters.

Nope. Plot was too repetitive and stereotypical characters. Not a lot of mystery as well.

Liked the narration and plot twist but there was a big chunk in the middle that went on too long however, I thought I had this plot figured out early on and I definitely didn’t see it coming.

It kept my interest the whole time and had a good, unpredictable twist but the ending was disappointing, fell flat. In comparison to Local Women Missing, this one was just okay.

Such a quick listen! I finished it in less than 24 hours! It was so suspenseful and just when you think you have it all figured out, they throw a curveball.

Zero stars. Foul language, totally uncalled for and not needed to tell a good story. Sad.

Kind of slow moving. Didn’t expect the ending though. It took a while for me to get into I’d say around chapter 25 is when I started getting sucked it.
