About this audiobook

Everyone's invited...everyone's a suspect...

For fans of Ruth Ware and Tana French, a shivery, atmospheric, page-turning novel of psychological suspense in the tradition of Agatha Christie, in which a group of old college friends are snowed in at a hunting lodge . . . and murder and mayhem ensue.

All of them are friends. One of them is a killer.

During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of thirtysomething friends from Oxford meet to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students ten years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands—the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves.

They arrive on December 30th, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world.

Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

The trip began innocently enough: admiring the stunning if foreboding scenery, champagne in front of a crackling fire, and reminiscences about the past. But after a decade, the weight of secret resentments has grown too heavy for the group’s tenuous nostalgia to bear. Amid the boisterous revelry of New Year’s Eve, the cord holding them together snaps.

Now one of them is dead . . . and another of them did it.

Keep your friends close, the old adage goes. But just how close is too close?

Listened for an hour but was too confused as to which voice was which character so I stopped in frustration. Possibly the book would be easier because you can refer back to get answers.

I'm not quite sure why I enjoyed The Hunting Party, but I did. I was looking for a light, festive-themed murder mystery, and this book definitely fits the bill. The story centres on a group of thirtysomething college friends who are celebrating New Year in a remote Scottish hunting lodge. It is told largely in flashback, using four first-person narratives and one third-person perspective. Sadly, the delineation of character lets the book down; some characters are flat and play no real part in the story; the men are particularly two-dimensional. The 'shared narration' conceit is less effective than it could have been because the narrators are so similar and their tones of voice so uniform. It is also unclear why and how these narratives emerged. The plot features the usual dodges and misdirections, but its pacing is perfectly judged. Despite its flaws it is well worth reading – especially in winter.

    Well, that one was ridiculous...
After reading 4 of Author's mystery/thriller novels in a year I can't unsee the similarities between them. I just don't really understand why she does that. And the reveal, oh dear. I don't like this trope.

    Foley delivers!
With relatable, annoying, lovely, infuriating characters, I could not stop! I had to read what had happened, who had done it and why!
At some point, it was obvious who was responsible and why, but it took me way longer than 3/4 of the book.
It superficially explores some of our society beeds, such as being liked, keeping up an image, unhealthy attachments for fear of change, or external validation.

Wow ! Suspense on suspense . However wrote the review referencing an Agatha Christie novel, you hit the nail on the head. Lots of twists and very well written. I both sympathized and detested the characters. Well done.

Lots to like, but quite predictable. You can very much see who the killer is early on, you just don’t know why until toward the end. A few weird turns that didn’t really contribute to the plot. Well written and very well voiced

A group of Oxford friends always meets up to spend New Years Eve together, and this year, they've booked a picturesque lodge in the Scottish highlands. At the lodge, there's a heavy snowstorm and almost no phone signal, and the isolation brings out buried secrets, evolving tensions and resentments, and murder.https://buyozempiconlinesouthafrica.com/
