About this audiobook

Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives—predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning—and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development…

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

A little bit sexy, a whole bunch of twisty, and all kinds of messed up! I loved it! As an avid thriller reader, I've learned to trust the process and just enjoy the ride, but this one keeps you on your toes throughout with all the different layers. A must read for any thriller fan who likes their thrillers more psychological and a bit gray.

I enjoyed this thriller because of the following factors.

    1. The beginning certainly captured my attention because I have not encountered any thriller novel that has a psychiatrist and lawyer working together to identify the real culprit.

    2. I love the "treasure hunt" approach especially when the alleged killer is deemed innocent by his lawyer who happens to be the father of one of the victims.

    3. I like the twist and the way the truth was revealed in the latter part of the story. Honestly, this has a unique plot twist that I appreciate being a thriller lover.

    4. The book would have been easier to follow if the chapters were labelled based on whose perspective it shows.

This is a highly recommended thriller and now i understand the hype behind this book. It is highly entertaining and it will keep the readers guessing until the very end.

    FINISHED THIS IN A DAY!!!

A.R. Torre beautifully entwines dynamic characters into a mind-boggling tale!!!

After The Girl in 6E series I thought there was no way A.R. Torre could draw me this way again… but she is a GENIUS! Definitely recommend this book!

It was definitely a good read. Unfortunately my biggest problem with the book is this - how did the police miss discovering the attic. That’s really sloppy police work and I’m not sure if all police can be painted as being so incompetent!

Very good thriller! well written, with unexpected twists and turns! The teenage boys' killings are quite brutal, can't imagine the horror of loosing a child that way. The story sort of 'proves' an underlying notion on psychiatry. Narrator was also really good, switching voices with slight changes to create believable characters!

This was a thrilling listen with some completely semi-ridiculous romance novel bits thrown in.

The characters, multiple storylines, and occasional breakthroughs in the case were all dead-on for an effective crime thriller. I could have done without the details of a middle-aged woman's sexual proclivities, however, which did nothing to move the story forward. But at least it's clear who the target audience for this novel is.

Plot was good, you can guess the twist halfway through if you’re into crime thrillers but it was still interesting. Gwen though, was not characterized well - she doesn’t seem to be as smart as she or the book describes her to be. Plus, I really don’t like how, for a strong and intelligent woman, she is always at the mercy of her sexual attraction. I cringed every time. But those scenes notwithstanding, the rest of the book was pretty compelling.

Different from other books of this genre. The narrator was great and I liked the characters. I didn’t find it as unpredictable as some other readers.

I did enjoy it, it kept me intrigued. Didn't guess the outcome, which I usually do! Not sure most women would do what she did at the end, like to think that I wouldn't!

The Good Lie. A.R. Torre. 2021. When Dr. Gwen Moore learns that John Abbot has been found stabbed to death beside his wife. She fears she should have taken his fantasies about killing his wife seriously and notified the police. Meanwhile Scott Harden has escaped from the notorious pervert who has tortured and killed 6 teen aged boys. He identifies a teacher as the notorious Bloody Heart Killer. The father of one of the murdered boys, a well-known defense attorney, decides to defend the teacher because he doesn’t believe he is guilty. He hires Gwen to draw up a psychological profile of the killer to prove the teacher is innocent. Twisted, violent, and suspenseful, great. Good to read on the treadmill!
