About this audiobook

From the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel, THE ALICE NETWORK, comes another fascinating historical novel about a battle-haunted English journalist and a Russian female bomber pilot who join forces to track the Huntress, a Nazi war criminal gone to ground in America.

In the aftermath of war, the hunter becomes the hunted…

Bold and fearless, Nina Markova always dreamed of flying. When the Nazis attack the Soviet Union, she risks everything to join the legendary Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on the invading Germans. When she is stranded behind enemy lines, Nina becomes the prey of a lethal Nazi murderess known as the Huntress, and only Nina’s bravery and cunning will keep her alive.

Transformed by the horrors he witnessed from Omaha Beach to the Nuremberg Trials, British war correspondent Ian Graham has become a Nazi hunter. Yet one target eludes him: a vicious predator known as the Huntress. To find her, the fierce, disciplined investigator joins forces with the only witness to escape the Huntress alive: the brazen, cocksure Nina. But a shared secret could derail their mission unless Ian and Nina force themselves to confront it.

Growing up in post-war Boston, seventeen-year-old Jordan McBride is determined to become a photographer. When her long-widowed father unexpectedly comes homes with a new fiancée, Jordan is thrilled. But there is something disconcerting about the soft-spoken German widow. Certain that danger is lurking, Jordan begins to delve into her new stepmother’s past—only to discover that there are mysteries buried deep in her family . . . secrets that may threaten all Jordan holds dear.

In this immersive, heart-wrenching story, Kate Quinn illuminates the consequences of war on individual lives, and the price we pay to seek justice and truth.

Started off kind of slow. Author has a funny way of sneaking in her other characters into the story. Overall a good listen. Same reader as her other books which is a welcome voice.

One of the worst books I’ve read from Kate Quinn. Incredibly boring and predictable. Struggled to finish the book.

The mounting suspense was excellent. It was difficult to stop listening. The voice actor is excellent. Her voice compelling. My only negative is the length . I think the story could have ended earlier. But having said that it is rare that I give an audio book 5 stars. This book deserves 5 stars. Thank you.

Compelling plot and ideas and eras, takes a little long to get rolling and bring it all together, and then suddenly it snaps into place. I loved learning about the history of the Night Witches, life under Stalin, and the escape & capture of Nazi war criminals. Nina is the best character I've read in a long time! You don't often see such a nasty, scrappy, crazy but loveable woman in fiction, without her needing saving from a man. My favourite is still The Alice Network though!

This was an absolutely wonderful book, half murder mystery, half human interest showing the shades of grey in war and the human psyche. More than that, it's fun. Serbian mythos combined with the reality LGBTQ exisitence in every age--and no buried lesbians. It's unflinching while remaining respectful, and I really loved it. I fell easily in step with the characters, felt like I knew and loved them and hurt with them and rejoiced with them. The voice acting was masterful and carries you along until you feel as though you can hear the planes and the whistle of wind off a frozen lake.
It's a riveting book, and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Absorbing story with excellent narration. Liked the way the narrative was brought out through alternating flashbacks to the war alongside the post-war ‘current day’. Also has a couple of love stories mixed in which should appeal to readers.
