About this audiobook

For two FBI agents with a past, love becomes a matter of life and death in the new Hidden Sins novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert.

Maggie Gaines used to be an FBI agent—top of her class and one of the bright, up-and-coming stars—until she spectacularly fell apart during her first high-profile case. That was eight years ago. Now she’s a ranger at Glacier National Park, and she’s found some measure of peace. But when the body of a murdered woman is discovered, she must finally put the past behind her and work with the one man she thought she’d never see again.

For months, Vic Sutherland has been hunting a killer who’s been targeting unsuspecting hikers in national parks—and now the predator has come to Glacier. Vic knows the case will bring him face-to-face with his former partner, yet nothing can prepare him for seeing Maggie again after all these years, or for the memories of passion it stirs in both of them.

As the investigation brings them closer together—and closer to the killer—Maggie and Vic fear they have only each other to trust. But even that might not be enough to make it out of Glacier alive.

Author

Katee Robert

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandfather's knee. Her 2015 title, The Marriage Contract, was a RITA finalist, and RT Book Reviews named it "a compulsively readable book." When not writing sexy contemporary or romantic suspense, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her children, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Maggie Gaines used to be an FBI agent until a high-profile case caused her to burn out. She had remade herself as a park ranger at Glacier National Park and is happy with her life. But when a body is discovered, her nice quiet life changes.Vic Sutherland was Maggie's former partner. He has been hunting the unsub who is killing people in national parks and comes to investigate the crime at Glacier. Maggie had a crush on him when they worked together but he was married. Now he's divorced and seems to be returning Maggie's feelings.Their relationship will have to be set aside because the serial killer didn't just kill one person and move on. As more bodies are discovered, Vic and Maggie need to work together to find out who is killing a group of school friends in the park. The viewpoint in this story switches from Vic's to Maggie's and to one of the group of school friends. We also find out more about the relationships between the school friends in flashbacks to five years earlier when they are just graduating from high school and going their separate ways. This was an engaging mystery that kept me guessing until the very end.

Never thought that I would like this series to the point that I would binge listen to all three books one after the other (thank you October).
But yep, highly recommend it even though the 1st book was a bit confusing but the following books improve a lot and this book had the biggest “what the fuck is that ending” in a good way of course.

When Maggie Gaines left the FBI's behavioral unit and became a park ranger, she never expected to be confronted again with a murder, but after a gruesome body is found in the park, the memories of the meltdown she suffered on her first case have returned. She also doesn't expect to be confronted with her former partner who she never thought to see again after an ill advised kiss, but Vic Sutherland is assigned to the case, adding more complication to Maggie's life. Vic is chasing a serial killer who has been using national parks as his hunting ground, and even though he knows that their split was an uncomfortable one, Vic has never forgotten Maggie or what he once felt for her.The Hunting Grounds is the second book in the Hidden Sins series and just like the first book, The Devil's Daughter, there are some questions left up in the air at the end of the story that I have to assume will be left unanswered. The rest of the book, however, includes enjoyable suspense and an interesting mystery set in Glacier National Park, which becomes a significant aspect of the story. The beauty of the park as well as its dangers add layers to the book, plus suspense in the chase to track down a killer. The limited number of suspects leads to several red herrings as the reader follows the main characters in solving the murders. Overall, The Hunting Grounds is a very good mystery/suspense story that, unfortunately, leaves very little room for romance.

a big case of "it's not you, it's me!" for this one. this is a perfectly fine mystery novel, but I need to accept that I generally don't like traditional mysteries.

"The Hunting Grounds" was a solid, well-paced suspense story with a touch of romance. The romance took a back seat, but it made sense for the story, more emphasis on the romantic aspects would have felt forced in the midst of trying to find a deranged murderer; I appreciated this realistic approach and still cared about Maggie and Vic's second chance at a relationship and in their career. The plot was engaging throughout and kept me guessing until the end. This was my first book by Katee Robert, but I will definitely have her on my radar from now on. Thank you to NetGalley for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
