While the pressure builds and the bodies accumulate, disturbing secrets come to light about a pivotal moment in political history. But will Lessard and Taillon crack the case in time to stop the killer from striking again?

I struggled with what to rate this book. The story itself was good, even if it was convoluted, but the characters.... The "hero" spent half of his time commenting on his partners size and eating habits. His partner, aside from being told how overweight she is, is also made out to be loud, gross and stupid so he can look like a genius.

This is the second in the series of Victor Lessard. Police procedural mysteries.Lessard has been promoted back into the Major Crimes Unit. The same unit from which has been demoted from in the first of series Lessard is still battling his same inner demons . The book starts out with a horrorfic suicide and quickly moves into s series of baffling and gruesome murders that jigsaw from the 1960’s to the present and contain elements of the JFK assassinaion, the CIA. The MK ULTRA Program, the Quebec Separistist movement

I loved it! It has a lot of nuance and is very descriptive. The characters and relationships have that touch of reality that make you want to keep reading. Will listen the the rest of this author’s books!

Just ok. Reader did a good job. Story was different in some ways. But the Adolescent sex scenes I could have done without. The days of men being portrayed as ‘all that’ I hoped was a thing of the past. Oh well.

An intriguing storyline that drew me in. A Canadian author of talent with a great job done by the narrator. I was a little confused at who some characters were for a hit but as each is so different I caught on. The story comes together in this complex, longer book. I enjoyed the characters, who kept me guessing til the end. I liked how Victor's love life can interject family, but family is vitally needed maintenance.

The plot was excellent but progressed in often x-rated fashion unnecessarily.

Brilliantly executed plot and narrative, which will keep you guessing and wanting to know more! Narrator did a very good job too. There are also details in the story which although confirmed as created for the story by the author, however they still make you wonder about what really happened, and the possible truth in them after all....will definitely look for more books from this author!

Compelling Quebec thriller!A gritty murder mystery that segues into the bizarre. Set in Montriel, a detective and his partner are confronted by a series of grotesque murders that have a dark history.I reveled in this thriller. Devastating Quebecian crime noi! Always that cutting edge that is present in many of the movie and literary contributions from this part of the world.I loved Victor Lessard a detective sergeant with the Major Crimes Unit of the Montreal Police. Victor is introspective, taciturn and a recovering alcoholic, taking copious amounts of anti anxiety pills, who has returned to the major crimes unit after having left in disgrace. He has a hair trigger temper when aroused. Jacinthe Taillon is his gung-ho, take no prisoners partner. She's dynamite and totally not PC. Together they are a seemingly ill matched yet superb duo. When the murders lead to past CIA experiments in mind control and questions are raised about JFK's assassination in relation to these experiments, the story enters the twilight zone of political theories and deniability. This is the first Victor Lessard novel to be translated into English. I look forward to more.A most satisfying read!A Dundurn Press ARC via NetGalley

2020My Recommendation Never Forget by Martin Michaud is the third in the Detective Victor Lessard series, however this novel is the first to be translated from French into English and I have no doubt the previous ones will soon follow. The author is also the screenwriter for the very successful television series based on these novels. Detective Victor Lessard and his quirky partner Jacinthe Taillon have been assigned to the suicide of a homeless man who, at the time of his demise, had in his possession two wallets: one belonging to a tortured murder victim and one belonging to a missing person. As the detectives investigate, the body count goes up. The puzzle is baffling for all involved and the police may need to go back in time, as far as the 1960s, to solve it. If you enjoy Scandinavian noir fiction and psychological thrillers, this mystery is for you. Highly recommended. Thank you to Dundurn Press and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wouldn’t bother with this one, the main character is really unlikeable. The story is also hard to follow because a lot of names are introduced all at once.
But what was far more annoying was that the main character’s partner is a larger woman, and in literally every scene that she’s in has a reference to how ‘huge’ she is. Not only that but in at least half of the scene she’s in she is eating. I don’t know if that’s meant to be funny or something, but it’s really not.

Say you don’t like ‘fat’ woman without saying you don’t like ‘fat’ women…
