About this audiobook

The job looked like the same old story. Husband thinks wife is cheating, husband hires private investigator... Until someone ends up dead.

As a former police detective turned PI, Sam Arbichaut has seen it all. Having moved from Florida to Portland, Oregon for a new start in life, he spends his days fighting middle-age spread and investigating whatever civilians pay him for.

When his latest job takes a homicidal turn, Sam soon figures out this case is anything but the usual... and finding out what the real story is might just cost him everything.

The story was well told, captivating and realistic . The main character is also super likeable. The narrator did a great job!

Story was convoluted; narrators should pronounce words correctly--editors pay attention.

The book did hold my interest so I finished it. The writing seems quite amateur so the dialogue got old in a hurry. It was just ok.

This mystery kept me wanting to find out what happened next. The writer did a very good job.

I really enjoyed this. It wasn't super in-depth like a lot of the victor mitos murders are and I'm glad. I don't need that much to tell all the time! This was more focused on the characters themselves... More focused on the lights of the private detective. I hope he continues to evolve. And I'm glad to have found a new series.

I did like the characters but I believe the story doesn't completely add up. Had fun listening to the audiobook but it might not be for everyone.

Wasn't bad but wasn't so exciting either. Enjoyed in general and will try something else from this author.

The protagonist's view is well done and the narrator's voice meshes well with the character.

I enjoyed this book, from the first chapter. In
fact I stayed up way to late so I could finish it in One day. I have to admit that I had to listen to the very end a couple of time to be sure I understood . Names were similar, and it was very fast moving. It was worth the extra effort. It was past my bedtime, that could have had something to do with it.

I enjoyed the book. I found it a little confusing at the end but I figured it out.

A disappointing third act. It appears that the books’s publishers were hounding the author for the final manuscript for which she came up with the least creative motive and clues that were not even discussed in the book.

Lame. Amidst all the dead bodies that keep coming, this P.I. eventually figures it out by accusing all and finally finding what happened.

This is my first work by Anne Baines, and I really liked it. I'm going to try to find more books by her now. I'm wondering whether there are any other stories with the same characters. There was a surprise ending, and it was suspenseful - though a little confusing to follow at times. Some loose ends weren't tied up, but this doesn't hurt the story. The victim's character is well developed, despite the story starting right out of the gate with their death. The PI (former copy from Florida) investigates her life in the process of helping the police find the killer.

I couldn’t even get past one minute in the book. The vulgar language was too much for me!

You know how you can tell within the first couple of minutes of a book whether you will like it or not? For me, this book hit all the right notes. Intriguing beginning, likable, relatable characters, great voice actor, and a tightly written suspense that kept me guessing until the very end. So looking forward to the next in this series!
