About this series

Lady Victoria Wickerby has always intended to fulfill the duty of her station and marry the man chosen by her father. Having disguised her determination beneath an air of blithe amusement, Victoria believes her obligation as a duke’s daughter is not incompatible with her covert ambitions. She fully intends to continue running a school for impoverished factory women. A man, no matter how handsome or powerful, will not disturb her life. She’s heard rumors about what takes place in a marriage bed and supposes that a little daily attention to her new husband will prove entirely bearable.

However, prominent aristocrats are accustomed to getting what they want. Three minutes each night will not be enough for Victoria’s fiancé of five years. Spencer Ashby, Duke of Casebridge, sets out to patiently, thoroughly seduce Victoria, even after the marriage has united their families. His ulterior motives are quickly revealed. Spencer has a young son from a previous liaison—and more, his son is wrapped in scandal. Spencer needs Victoria’s influence and charm to redirect the course of Society’s gossip. Presenting a unified front as a loving family will not be simple, and Spencer’s sweet, seemingly naïve bride expects a high price for her public smiles.

Tangled in their schemes, the no-nonsense newlyweds never expect to find a love as vigorous as their passion—a love even stronger than their stubborn hearts.

He’ll protect her with every vicious bone in his body. During her ten years at the prestigious Waywroth Academy, Sera Miller clung to a strict code of propriety to shield herself from rumors that she isn’t an orphan at all. She’s a bastard. Now she wishes she had never allowed her friends to talk her into snooping into the mysterious source of her tuition. Her benefactor isn’t the unknown father she dreamed of one day meeting, but Fletcher Thomas—underworld tycoon, gambling den owner, and a man so dangerously mesmerizing that he could spark the scandal Sera has worked so hard to avoid. Fletcher is only two steps away from leaving the life of crime he inherited from his father. First he plans to join an aboveboard railroad consortium, then claim the one thing his ill-gotten gains have kept safe all these years—Sera. With every wicked caress, Sera fights harder to remember society’s rules and reject the painful memories his touch resurrects. Accepting Fletcher’s love means accepting her past—a risk too great for a woman who has always lived in the shadows. No matter how safe she feels in his arms. Warning: This book contains a do-gooder heroine, an accidentally charming hero with tendencies toward caveman-itis, inappropriate household décor and fabulous sex against a wall.

Love is madness. When Miss Charlotte Vale isn't running a school for impoverished factory women, she takes tea with an insane painter-the mother she adores. Determined to avoid her mother's legacy of madness, Lottie refuses to marry and nurtures the ton's bemused disregard for her reputation. Through her door strides a man who threatens all she holds dear. Her cherished school, her careful control and her guarded heart. Sir Ian Heald has tracked his sister's blackmailer to her last-known location-Lottie's school. Although he would burn the place to the ground if it would save his sister's reputation, Ian is drawn to Lottie's bold candor and indifference toward polite society. To find his sister's blackmailer, Ian follows Lottie into a twisted world of illegal gambling clubs and eccentric parties. Even when their mutual passion ignites, Ian knows their affair cannot last. Lottie was never meant to be tucked away on his quiet pastoral estate, and she staunchly refuses his desire to wed. Yet fiery kisses and scandalous showdowns tempt this proper country gentleman to win the woman he loves and never let her go. Warning: This book contains gambling in low-class clubs, deliciously deadpan dialogue, an unplanned swim to rescue doused women, and a fast, furious spanking. She wants it though, so that hardly counts.

The book is well written, but I feel that newer writers emotionally stunted, and either better understanding of the psychosis of a person. You can’t create a selfish character and not have consequences for his selfish deeds. You can’t he did by caring for a child he doesn’t know whether is his because itself it is selfish for his own redemption. He continues to be selfish, manipulative, and a liar. We read books with these characters to see them punished for their behavior not rewarded an placed on pedestals. Male character does what he wants and continues to do what he wants and then he lives happily ever after having gotten what he wanted. At no point suffer for what he has done to his current wife because it’s okay, for “love” of his “son”.

This book in the series takes her writing to a new level. The dynamic tension that she created felt more real and the sexual tension in this book is palpable. I’m sure that it didn’t hurt that the reader did such a great job.

I’ve listened to many regency and historical romance novels. This one held my interest because of the conflicts between characters and suspense of not knowing when and how Victoria and Spenser would break down their barriers. The narration was very good and that always makes a huge impact on my level of enjoyment as well as the writing.

The narration was good, the story lacking in depth. And there was way too much sex. Two chapters dedicated to each sex scene is just too much. I don't read romances for the sex alone, but for the story. In fact, I skip most sex scenes because frankly, after reading romances for 30+ years, they're all about the same.

I lived this story. Their marriage encountered trials & tribulations and yet they prevailed.

It was incredibly boring. The slow, flat monotone narrator might not have helped. She read with no emotion at all. The sex was so long and drawn out that I started skipping it, which is pretty sad. The story was thin and there were almost no characters. Super predictable on top of everything else. Arranged marriage between duke and duke’s daughter. He has son he never told her about. She gets pissed and then they win each other over. He is not terribly likable for a big part of the story. More than half seemed to be looooooong drawn out sex scenes. Don’t bother

Loved it. Beautiful lyrical writing plus a very, very dirty talking Duke meets Victorian England.

I wouldn't say I liked how Victoria was made to look weak in love. She should made Spencer work extra hard.
