About this audiobook
With his facility for languages and gift for diplomacy, Thomas Pearce is perfectly suited for his recent position in the Foreign Office. Or so he imagines until he receives his first assignment. Instead of a safe consular post in a friendly country, Thomas is going to France to rescue Sabine Rousseau, the illegitimate daughter of Britain's premiere.
Sabine and Thomas must make their escape, and it won't be easy. Her uncle considers her a ticket to curry favor with Napoleon and won't let her disappear without a fight. To avoid detection, the couple must pretend to be amorous newlyweds and this proves the most difficult task of all. Because it isn't long before neither of them is pretending and every night, there's only one bed.
Editor's Note
Fake Relationship...
The “Lords of Lancashire” series takes a trip to France in “The Spy’s Fake Bride.” As its title suggests, there’s a fake marriage which leads, inevitably, to only one bed. Add in Barbosa’s flawless writing and attention to historical details, and “The Spy’s Fake Bride” is another satisfying( and satisfyingly spicy) historical.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5While there was some adventure, this one in the series seemed more about sex with the virgin without taking her virginity than anything else.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Anoyingly fast ?? nobody checks this??. Shame that .... .
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good overall, more steamy steam than suspense so not quite for me.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Read this one rather than listen!!
The story was pretty good but the narrator sucked. IDC about her bad accent that much but she somehow manages to suck the sexiness out of every moment. Sex scenes are almost mechanical due to the physically explicit descriptions coming from a robotic voice.
Literally thought I was listening to Siri at one point.... - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I can't believe I am going to say this, but the sex was too much. It got boring.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The writing was nice and the erotic scenes were as well, if a bit clinical at points. But honestly, the low rating is for the narrator. Her faux-French accent was absolutely horrid and definitely took me out of the moment more than a few times. That being said, I did finish it because I found the male lead to be quite lovely, however - With another narrator, this would be a top pick.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Barbosa is one of the very best and most consistent regency writers of romance. This one however might appeal more strongly to those looking for salacious and counters… Which others might find a bit tedious… But it is so refreshing to have a writer who does not use codependency and self-sacrifice as the key to all plots. Here we have two strong heroes who look toward their own as well as their lovers best interests and chaos does not ensue because one or the other is trying to be the sacrificial lamb. I wish that Barbosa would write a romance historical fiction that is not so intently sexual but it certainly might appeal to others…
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story was very good but it was ruined by a completely inappropriate narrator. An American narrating a British story was very distracting I almost stopped half way as I couldn't take it for much longer, but I wanted to finish the story as it was sweet and funny and very nice and steamy. And I wanted to listen to the whole series. So now on to the next one and hopefully it will be narrated by a British narrator.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Nope- the narrator killed it… so cringey that I couldn’t get past the first chapter.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Far better than the first or second book. It actually has a really decent story. You can easily skip the sex scenes without losing too much of the story. Explicit language and scenes were quite unnecessary.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The reader is hard to listen to. It’s as if she’s reading a newspaper article. Unbearable so abandoned it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The rough language was for the most part very unnecessary ?
