About this audiobook
A special TV Tie-In edition to BRIDGERTON, a series created by Shondaland for Netflix, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn: the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, in the fourth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring her charming, powerful Bridgerton family.
COLIN AND PENELOPE’S STORY
Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for … well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret … and fears she doesn’t know him at all.
Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide … is she his biggest threat—or his promise of a happy ending?

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a charming and romantic story with excellent bantering between the main characters. The narration is amazing and the story is sweet. However, some readers felt that the character development was lacking and were disappointed with Colin's abusive behavior towards Penelope. Overall, the book is enjoyable and the reveal of Lady Whistledown adds an element of fun. It may not be as steamy as the previous books in the series, but it still has a happy ending for the wallflower protagonist.

I thought this was okay, maybe because all the hype for the show ruined it for me a bit, or maybe because knowing what was coming kept me on edge for most of the book. Either way, I did like the characters and am happy with how their story ended up ? - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5

I think the show gets it right. Hate that (spoiler) Pen has to lose weight to be considered, and Colin is abusive (pulling her around, forcing her to drink). Meh - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5

Read the book waiting for the point that I would like Collin, but that point never came. This was very disappointing because his character had so much potential. I was so excited for this book. I would not have regarded him as much of a love interest if Penelope’s in her monologue had not stated so repeatedly. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Very nice book, excellent narration. One thing I didn't like was the way Collin fell in love with Penelope, it just wasn't convincing. But everything else was superb! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Charismatic Rake turns into gaslighting domestic abuse. I appreciate lady Dansbury trying to encourage Penelope to open up and be herself & how she supports other wallflowers. But I am very disappointed in the lack of character development, and Penelope, owning being herself, especially how terribly abusive Colin was to Penelope. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Sweet and innocent love the plot and the message about love for one's family. If only it could be that easy in real life. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5

Really disappointed with how abusive and controlling Colin is in this book. I wanted to like it, but it actually made me uncomfortable with how often he grabs her forcefully or “painfully” by the arms/wrists/hands, how much he seeks to control her (even before they are officially together) and how angry/explosive he gets. And he gets angry a LOT in this book. Really hope the series Is better… - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

I liked this story, more than the other books, but i can't say i loved it. I didn't like the quick switch from "i will not marry Penelope" to "i must kiss her". Also i find it problematic all the paragraphs where he's like "she wants to be kissed even though she doesn't know it" - wtf dude.. did she tell you she wants to be kissed? - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5

Too much repeating, too drawn out - Colin’s realization of his attraction to Penelope not convincing enough.2 people found this helpful

Another fun entry in the Bridgerton series. This time we get Colin and Penelope's story, and it's lovely. It feels like the coziest and warmest of the bunch so far, without much angst before they get together, and I also love that there's a fair amount of hinting at what's coming up in Eloise's part of the saga. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I came to this book slightly irritated that the first season of the Netflix Bridgerton dramatisation had spoiled a critical plot element. But that was a minor quibble, as I loved every page of Penelope and Colin's story.
Colin Bridgerton, the "nicest man in London", can be a bit of a douche. Like Simon in the first book, he annoyed me through much of this story - unlike Simon, I felt he redeemed himself at the bottom of the ninth.
If you've read and enjoyed the first three books in this series, you'll like this one. While it can be read as a standalone, there are cameos from family members and other characters introduced in previous books, and Penelope's ascension will be best appreciated by readers who have followed her journey as written thus far.
