About this audiobook
Sensible, practical Elinor Tregarth really did plan to be the model poor relation when she moved into Hathergill Hall. She certainly never meant to kidnap her awful cousin Penelope's pet dragon. She never expected to fall in love with the shameless - but surprisingly sweet - fortune hunter who came to court Penelope. And she never dreamed that she would have to enter into an outrageous magical charade to save her younger sisters' futures.
However, even the most brilliant scholars of 1817 England still haven't ferreted out all the lurking secrets of rediscovered dragonkind...and even the most sensible of heroines can still make a reckless wish or two when she's pushed. Now Elinor will have to find out just how rash and resourceful she can be when she sets aside all common sense. Maybe, just maybe, she'll even be impractical enough to win her own true love and a happily ever after...with the unpredictable and dangerous "help" of the magical creature who has adopted her.
A frothy Regency rom-com full of pet dragons and magical misadventures, Scales and Sensibility is a full-length novel and the first in a new series of standalone romantic comedies.
Editor's Note
Jane Austen and Dragons...
Burgis mashes up Jane Austen with dragons, and the result is absolutely delightful. A poor relation is fed up with being mistreated and takes the spoiled daughter of the house’s equally mistreated pet dragon with her in her escape. “Scales and Sensibility” has a sweet romance, elegant prose, and of course, dragons.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an adorable easy listen. It’s a cute story with some interesting twists. The narrator does a fantastic job.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A fascinating and unique take on a Victorian/ Regency romance. The only reason its only getting a 4 is that the ending felt kind of rushed and a few of the characters were a bit one note.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Honestly, I kept skipping over this book because of the title.
JA is one of my favorite authors but it looked like a bad knockoff.
This book is not that at all.
The author did a beautiful job writing and making the plot believable.
I will be looking for more books by her.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lots of humour, and wholesome reading. Happy ending with Eleanor and Benedict finally expoding the fake family. Definitely worth a listen.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great read with sweet happy ending. Fairy tale love.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's like a marrigoround & then you catch the ring.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lots of fun. Good story. Nice Regency feel, with a fantasy twist. (And not with the sex scenes that modern regency style books seem to have. Hurrah!)

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Much better than I expected it to be. This was a fun light-hearted book set in regency England. There's a bit of magic, small dragons, humor, and intrigue. Well done.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fun sweet Regency era fantasy romance. Despite the title and the name of the MC, this is not a rewrite of Sense and Sensibility. It's a clean Regency romance with pet sized dragons. Honestly, she had me sold at dragons no matter the size and the rest of the story didn't disappoint. The MC and LI's relationship felt natural and and unrushed and both were extremely likable. The way it ended was sort of predictable but not in an eye-rolling way, more like "Yes, this is how it should end." with a ending that felt deserved. The narrator was a joy to listen to and each voice was distinct and interesting even among different sexes.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a pleasant surprise.
The writing and narration was superb. Judging by the credits there was a lot of work put into this presentation and that’s evident in how much I enjoyed the story. I didn’t put it down from beginning to end.
Well done, and thank you!1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Finally, a beautiful written fantastical book with fun, meaningful depth. Such a fun, heartfelt romantic and worldly romantical book that doesn't include I wouldn't want my grandkids to read. I plan to share this with my eldest granddaughter (11yrs). I love a good story that shows the intelligence and strength of women in a time period when it's not the norm for women to be, especially when they end up showing up a pathetic suffocating man who deserves it
Additionally, I normally don't enjoy reading the "About the Author" section, but I truly felt the honesty of this author's gratefulness for those who helped her in her quest to write this novel. It probably helps that my Grandmother is a full Welsh woman and told me many stories of playing in the abandoned castles and drinking a bit too much in the pubs as a young lady. ?❤️ The Narrator nailed it, and I hope to listen to many more books from her!1 person found this helpful
