About this audiobook

Wild and carefree Winifred Langston has nursed a crush on her best friend's older brother for years, but Conrad Pearce has never deigned to notice her. Little does she know that Conrad has been concealing his attraction to her beneath his stuffy, respectable exterior. But when Conrad hears of Freddie's plans for one last, wild caper before she's sent to London for her first season, he's convinced to teach her a well-deserved lesson. He intercepts her disguised as a highwayman only to find he can't resist the sensual beauty hidden beneath the maddening hellion's exterior and what began as one sort of lesson becomes quite another...

Editor's Note

Tropey Goodness...

Mutual pining. A brother’s best friend and best friend’s sister. Wild and carefree meets buttoned-up and sometimes stuffy. Barbosa packs many well-loved romance tropes into the first book in her “Lords of Lancashire” historical romance series, and it’s a delightful beginning. Barbosa’s characters are immediately recognizable, albeit in cravats and ball gowns, and the blossoming romance between these two is well-done.

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a writer when I grew up, but there were plenty of times when I wasn’t sure I ever would be. As it turns out, it just took me about twenty years longer to grow up than I expected! On the road to publication, I took a few detours, including a stint in academia (I hold an MA in Classics from the University of Chicago and was a recipient of a Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities) and many years as a technical writer/instructional designer for a data processing company. I still hold my day job, but my true vocation has always been writing fiction and romance in particular. To stay informed of my release schedule, you can sign up for my newsletter (which I only send out when I actually release a book) or follow me on Twitter or Facebook. As a matter of public record, I tend to be a lot more active on Twitter, but also a lot more political. I am represented by Kevan Lyon of the Marsal Lyon Literary Agency. I’m a firm believer that love is the most powerful force in the world, which that makes romance the most powerful genre in the world. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise!

Freddy is awesome, as she is herself and won't conform to society's standards for women back then.

Really, really steamy from beginning to end, as are all of her books. Don’t read her books if you’re expecting The Bridgertons.

Not a fan of the reader. More of an erotica, but I don't mind.

The story has little to no character development. That said it also has little to no story line so calling it a story is a bit of a stretch. This is not a romance novel it is exotica. If there was more character development perhaps it could have been a romance novel. But the lack of character development leaves the reader wondering "why would a lady behave like that?" And "why would a true gentleman who has respect for a lady treat her like that?" Moreover the explicit language used is both unnecessary and vulgar.

This was a quick story yet hit all the right spots. Enjoyed Freddy’s character. This was the light hearted story mix with steam that I need today. Even my headache feels less painful after listening to the ending.
