Key Takeaways:
Training for the Arctic Circle Race is a challenge in itself.
Cross-country skiing is all about the triceps.
Posting in social media helps a lot in fundraising.
Action Steps:
If you’re planning to join the ACR do strength training and build up your triceps.
Build tons of aerobic fitness by walking a lot and hacking movement into your day.
Include hill runs in your training. Charge up and down hills carrying cross-country skis.
When it comes to fundraising, don’t be afraid to ask people. Write to businesses with whom you have good connections for sponsorships.
Bring proper food to the race.
Leanne said:
“We wanted to find something that did take us well out of our comfort zone, and from starting on roller skis to actually taking part in the race, it definitely did that.”
Antonia said:
“If you’re completely deconditioned and you want to take on an event like this, I think you need at least two years of preparation just to get your level of fitness up because, towards the end, I think it was our fitness levels that got us through it, not because we are great skiers.”
Thanks for listening!
