Description

On this episode of The New Old You we continue our Inspiration Series with Mary Hester. Mary is the mother of a friend of mine who was very quick to volunteer her to be featured in this series. And that is because Mary, after many, many years working in an industry to didn't light her up, decided to face her fears and go back to college full-time at 50 to pursue her dream of getting a degree.Mary doubted herself many times over, but knew this was her opportunity to do something she had always dreamed of. And because of her decision and the strength to push through is now living a life in retirement that is beyond her wildest dreams.Among other things, Mary talks about:1. How it's not the things we do that we regret, it's the things we don't do.2. Imposter Syndrome is natural, but you just have to push through - especially when you have the opportunity.3. Part of clarity is just following a path you may already be on.4. Never be afraid to ask friends for help when you are working hard towards a lifelong goal.5. There are so many new things to learn about ourselves when we decide to make a move in our lives.6. Being social as you age is so important both mentally and physicially.7. Everyone's got a hidden dream whether they know it or not. Just grab onto it.8. Go for it and don't look back.9. You don't have to stop living because you're 50. 50 is very young. You've got so many more years ahead.10. Don't take everything too seriously and have a drink every now and then.Thank you for listening. As a former competitive athlete, I understand the importance of consistency when working to reach goals in all areas, while also dealing with these transitions of life.
