    Defining High Blood Pressure:

    High blood pressure occurs when the force exerted by the blood against arterial walls is consistently too high. Blood pressure readings are typically presented as two numbers: systolic pressure over diastolic pressure. Systolic pressure refers to the force when your heart contracts and pumps blood, while diastolic pressure represents the force when your heart relaxes between beats.
