This means that individuals have a degree of control over their risk factors through lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. Elevated blood sugar levels associated with type 2 diabetes can lead to a range of severe health complications. These include nerve damage (neuropathy), kidney failure, damage to blood vessels, increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (including heart attacks and strokes), heightened susceptibility to infections, and delayed wound healing. Contrary to common assumptions, individuals with severe type 2 diabetes may experience muscle loss and weight loss due to their bodies' inability to utilize glucose for energy effectively. This is a result of insulin resistance, where cells become resistant to the effects of insulin and cannot absorb glucose properly. In cases of extremely high blood glucose levels, the body may enter a state of diabetic ketoacidosis, where it starts breaking down muscle and fat for energy, leading to the production of ketones. This can result in a life-threatening situation if not treated promptly. [11:50] The Interplay of Overconsumption, Insulin Resistance, and Type 2 Diabetes Type 2 diabetes often begins with overconsumption of food, which raises blood glucose levels. This triggers the body to release insulin to maintain balance, but repeated overconsumption causes continuous elevation of glucose and insulin levels. With persistently high glucose and insulin levels, muscle cells may resist insulin's signals to absorb glucose. This resistance leads to the closure of insulin receptors on muscle cells, preventing glucose uptake and contributing to elevated blood sugar levels. The body attempts to compensate for insulin resistance by increasing insulin production, cre
