1 Drink in moderation
Too much alcohol raises blood pressure and greatly increases your chance of a stroke, which cuts blood supply to the brain and strikes 100,000 people every year Stick to the official guidelines of no more than 14 units a week, with at least two days alcohol-free. ‘Binge drinking is particularly dangerous as it can cause blood pressure to rise very quickly,’ says Claire Shuttleworth, Stroke Prevention Manager at the Stroke Association.
