Mo Y Ma
Mo Y Ma was born in Guangzhou, a big city in the southern part of China and did live there for twenty some years. Unfortunately he witnessed a lot of political struggles and movements there. He preferred to record those historical events through writing a book and poetry rather than the boring diary. He had written more than six hundred poems in Chinese and later rewrote forty of them in English.Before the end of 1968 he was sent to Huiyang county to do farm work. In Sep of 1970 he escaped to the New Territory of Kowloon by swimming across the Mirs Bay. After three and a half years he emigrated to USA from Hong Kong. He worked twenty two years for HewlettPackard as a Precision Instruments technician and later worked eighteen years for BART as an AFC technician. Someone would ask what the difference is between living in Mainland China and USA. That is very likely to compare a chicken raised in the State Farm and another in the free range. Mo's zodiac sign is Aquarius and he loves freedom.

自 序
余自幼喜好數理而對文科不感興趣 . 後來高中
畢業便失業在家 , 正所謂 賦閑無聊
, 而且
満肚子牢騷 . 小時候家母教的唐詩 , 宋詞開始
派上用場 . 把較好的 , 自己喜歡的詩句反覆背
誦 , 嘴嚼 , 消化 , 同時也悟出點道理來 ; 當然
也要學寫幾句 . 那時在中國大陸那樣的環境是
不允許這種属於 封 , 資 , 修
的詩詞存在的
( 毛澤東詩詞例外 ) . 所以不要說找名家指點 ,
連找個有此同好的來一起研討也算犯法 . 這麼
多年來自己只能在黑洞中模索 ; 不論好壞寫了
百多首 . 對中國舊式詩詞的平仄韻律的認識只
懂點皮毛 ; 對其運用也只限於令詩句不拗口難
聽 . 自己也不願為了平仄而去修改好句或破壞
好的意境 . 其實有時並不容易把平仄分清楚 ,
因為某些粵語的仄聲字在只有四聲的國語裡變
成平聲字 ; 要知道粵語有八個音 , 甚至有九個
音的 . 如果寫現代新詩便沒那麼多桎梏 , 但本
人比較喜歡有點格律的體裁而不大熱衷於散文
式的斷句 . 其實好的詩是不拘形式的 .
這幾年曾經選了自己覺得還可以的詩詞來把它
們翻譯成英文詩 文章的翻譯已經不易 , 而詩的
翻譯更難 . 因為不同的語言有不同的特性 , 很
多時直譯或意譯還是不能把詩的警句或意境譯
岀 ; 這時真的比另寫一首還要難 . 當翻譯 " 夢
回 "這首詩時便碰到這種問題 . 後來乾脆用英
文另寫一首算了.
英文詩更沒有正規學過 , 只知道現代英詩更趨
向自由體 . 開始時以為把自己的中文詩翻譯過
來便可 ; 但説也奇怪 , 這些譯岀來的英詩有點
