Prologue
The draft of this novel has been brewing in my mind for thirty years, but I couldn’t go further to write it down. Recently, I was deeply moved by the oil painting, Gleaners, by J. F. Millet when visiting the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Then I named my novel 「拾」, and began to discuss this novel with a few friends who love literature, I learned some practical truths. Here I would like to share with you our conversation as A Dialog between the Author and the Reader:
Reader:First of all, why did you name this novel 「
Author:The name 「拾」is a Chinese number, which also means to pick up
. In his work, Miller depicted farmers taking pity on the ears of wheat left on the ground after harvesting. Here I would also like to pick up the feelings of young people who cannot return
