Let Us Start the Conversation

About this ebook
Reynolds begins by chronicling her experiences as she grew up amid fear and violence and made many mistakes that prompted later reflection on whether her past owned her or whether she owned the past. As she matured and struggled to find a path forward and happiness, Reynolds discloses how she turned the mirror around to change her patterns and behaviors, retrain her brain to have a more positive outlook, modify the narrative, and transform from being a pawn of circumstance to an empowered woman focused on healing herself in order to help others heal as well.
Let Us Start the Conversation shares insight into one woman’s journey through life as she courageously overcame many obstacles to find healing, peace, and unconditional love for herself and the world around her.

Introduction
I have had the desire to write this book for a very long time; I did not know if it was going to be a memoir, autobiography, or a story loosely based on my life experiences. I don’t think this book is any of those. We all have a journey, and at some time in our lives, it may become a healing journey. Most of us at some point in our lives are brought to our knees by this crazy thing called life. I want to share with you how I got back up, and I hope that my words might help you feel not so alone.
It does not matter what brings you to your knees but how you get back up that counts. If you can do this with love and kindness toward yourself, the transition will go much smoother. I will talk a lot about love as we go forward, so let me define what love means to me. Unconditional love is without conditions, without judgement but with empathy, respect, kindness, nurturing, forgiveness, well-being, and compassion for yourself. Learning to know yourself, the good, the bad, and the ugly truths about who you are, and accepting and embracing yourself regardless, knowing that every day you will strive to unconditionally love and forgive yourself to become a better version of yourself. You are worth this process; do not give up. If you slip, get back up again and again until you realize you are here for a reason, and that is to be just you. Once you have learned to love yourself, then you can love others.
Let me take a moment to introduce myself; I am Rae, I am a woman, an old soul, a mother, a survivor, a warrior, a therapist, someone who has listened to stories from many. I grew up in fear and trauma, which made me highly aware of my surroundings. I am a voyeur of life.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you into my journey and the things I have learned along the way in hope that it inspires you to listen to your own heart on your journey of self and love.
The Person in the Glass
When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you president for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that person has to say.
For it isn’t your partner or family or friend
Whose judgement upon you must pass.
The person whose verdict counts the most in the end
Is the one staring back through the glass.
Some people may think you a straight-shooting chum
And call you a person of place,
But the person in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look that person straight in the face.
That’s the person to please, never mind all the rest,
For they are with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If that person in the glass
