Reviews for Self-Love is… Loving Me Unconditionally
My overall experience with reading this book has been great. Every chapter has allowed for me to have a moment to look within to change my pain points into my purpose. The transparency and honestly creates an environment for vulnerability. This book is a necessity to help others heal and transform within.

"‘Self-Love Is…’ is relatable, transparent, touching, and engaging. Shlonda Nottingham takes us on a journey of healing with the personal stories she shares with us in her book. Her book reminds me of how we as humans look at other humans’ lives through rose-colored glasses. She does a beautiful job of removing the rose-colored film from our eyes and she gives us the raw and the real. Shlonda’s story forces us to take a look at our own lives and think about how we deal with our own pain, fears, and insecurities. Her uplifting words and experiences should serve as a guide for us all as we go through painful situations in life. Thank you Shlonda for shining your light on our healing paths."

Shlonda, Shlonda, Shlonda!! This is a ministry! Shlonda has truly poured out to us. Thank you for sharing your test and sticking through it to share your testimony! This book speaks for itself and I recommend it to not only those who are experiencing similar trials but even those who haven’t so they will know it will be alright! With God on your side, you are able to conquer anything. Even if some days you are out of fuel, refill and continue the fight! Never let your flame out! This is what Shlonda expresses in her book through her story. This book is inspirational. Not many have the courage to share their story. The courage that it took for Shlonda to share her story with us is phenomenal.

The author has out done herself with this masterpiece. Shlonda’s authenticity and vulnerability can empower and encourage us all. Even through lenses of a woman, she makes this book an easy read for a man like me. The activities that followed the reading are tools for one’s personal betterment toolbox. The author is providing you the necessary equipment to survive in the midst of an emotional pandemic. As I enjoyed reading this majestic artwork placed in book form, the chapter on Self Priority was the one that grasped my attention. Shlonda makes it very clear that sex is a topic that’s tipped-toed around, especially by Christians. We tend not to open that box based on the views that might come back. However, the author keeps it clean, open, and honest. She makes the declarative statement that
sex is a distraction. From a man’s perspective, I wholeheartedly stand with her statement. Sex has been used as a distraction for so many years. The issue that I have not seen/heard discussed until this book is the emotional after affect. As I am quoted in this book with my
Uno Philosophy, one must make themselves a priority. Even though this was advice given to a young lady, it applies for everyone. You must make sure that your well-being is put first. Self-love, self-reflection, self-perseverance are all things Shlonda puts in place for the reader to digest and use for their benefit.

In loving memory of my precious son, Mekhi, and Aunt, Joyce Campbell.
Mekhi, everything that mommy does is in remembrance of you.
You gave me life and purpose beyond what I could have ever imagined.
Auntie Joyce, from the womb you were there to love, defend, and support me. I promised you that I’d continue to reach my highest potential. I will continue to make you proud.

Once Broken…Now Healed…Still Beautiful
When I left off with my first book, Beautifully Broken, I was working through healing the wounds that were placed in my heart from growing up and what I called the growing pains.
Many may argue that now, three years later, I am still living in the past. Others may argue that I am still holding on to the little girl that grew up feeling abandoned and unloved. Years of being skipped over and forgotten, with years of holding on to anger and sadness caused by the first man to ever love me. Using my words to fight my battles with him (sigh), your girl was tired. I was tired of feeling low. I was tired of holding on to all of that trashed past and it was time for me to dispose of the emotions which is why Beautifully Broken even exists. Today I stand firm as a woman that suffers no more from abandonment issues, unreleased anger, or anxiety, when it comes to trust.
Speaking out about my broken heart as a child from the absence of my father was literally the best thing that I could have ever done. Pouring out about how I felt abandoned by him as a result of his actions that I had held onto gave me a sense of relief from several situations. It empowered me and allowed me to take back control of that piece of my life. Speaking out was truly my therapy.
So, you may be wondering after such an intense couple of years as illustrated in the book, where are we now? I am sure that you have heard the phrase, Sometimes you have to love others from a distance, but that is exactly what I have been doing. I have moved on with my life and have been relieved of every piece of baggage that was dragging me down. Him and I speak occasionally and even have our little petty conversations here and there, but I have accepted the man that he is and will always be. I have also decided to keep my distance. There is nothing more that I can do. I am not in the place of wanting to mend or build our relationship because I refuse to be angry and disappointed for the rest of my life.
In August of 2019, I graduated with my Master of Human Resources Management. That was truly a day to remember, and guess what? My father made it to see me walk proudly across the stage to receive my final degree (laughs). While there was a little pettiness coming from others that joined him in his commute, he was proud of me and happy to be there. Like every family, we have our rough patches, but because I know who I am and who he is, I will not let another thing shake me or break me. I hold the cards for my emotions and my actions.
I was once broken, now I am healed and honey, I am still beautiful. That journey is now complete!
