    You are here for a reason. You might have heard that juicing offers many health benefits in a convenient package. Maybe you want to start your weight loss journey, elevate your energy level, or give a bit of shine to your skin. Regardless, juicing can be a fun habit that has a myriad of health benefits.

    Let’s be real. Everybody knows the health benefits of fruits and veggies. We all know that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, so why aren’t we having apples every day? To know better and not do it is simply part of being human, but that does not mean it is the right thing to do.

    While we should all increase our consumption of fruits and veggies, everybody agrees that bacon tastes much better. This is a problem that juicing aims to solve. It makes consuming fruits and veggies as convenient as possible.

    As the name suggests, juicing is all about extracting juice from fruits and veggies. One benefit to that is convenience. It takes longer to chow down an apple compared to drinking a glass of apple juice, although nutritionists will argue that the latter has fewer nutrients (more on that later).

    What nutritionists will agree on is the fact that juicing is healthy. Some may not say that it is healthier than eating fruits and veggies, but it is better than not eating them at all.

    Hi, my name is Juliet Henry and I have a confession to make. I used to have an unhealthy relationship with food. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20s that I took health and nutrition seriously.

    Before then, my weight was suboptimal. I was overweight, bordering on obesity. I had a self-image problem and life was generally difficult. I got tired easily and everything hurt. It was a dark time for me, but on one insomniac night, I decided to take matters into my own hands because, let’s face it, the extra fat isn’t going anywhere until I change something.

    Pareto’s principle dictates that 80% of results come from only 20% of actions. The key then is to identify that 20%. In weight loss, that 20% is the diet.

    Any personal trainer and a nutritional expert will tell you that you need to change your diet alongside exercising. The simple fact is that it does not matter how many pushups you do, or how many miles you can run in a day, the calories from all those cheeseburgers you eat afterward will undo all of that.

    So, it all starts with eating right. Why? Because weight loss is a simple mathematical equation. Weight loss results from a calorie deficit where you burn more calories than you eat. Yes, some people may argue that it is more nuanced than that, but no one will say that a calorie surplus leads to weight loss. Calories deficit does.

    And this is why I am here to hopefully dispel some myths about weight loss and introduce to you the idea of juicing. Now, you may be aware of this fad diet called juice fast or juice cleanse where you consume nothing but juice for days or even weeks at a time. If that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, then you are absolutely correct.

    I have worked with many people who want the same thing I did back when my BMI was 29.3: a quick and dirty way to lose weight. Back then, I tried every fad diet conceivable by mankind. What set me on the path of becoming the nutritional expert that I am today was when I blacked out while driving to work. I was on one of those very strict and extreme diets at the time. I spent a week in the hospital but I would be lying if I did not agree that I was very lucky that day.

    I did lose a lot of weight, but it was not a sustainable approach and I gained a fair bit while I was bedridden. Since then, I changed my approach to something healthier and more sustainable. And I want to do everything in my power to help others who find themselves in the same situation.

    And that is the thing about fad diets: they are only temporary. They make claims that you will lose 50 pounds in 3 weeks. To do this, you might need to limit yourself to 500 calories or something. At the end of the program, assuming you can even hold on that long, you might end up overeating to the point that you undo all of that progress in a week. What’s the point, then? You are just torturing yourself.

    The better method is to not aim for rapid weight loss, but a slow but sustained reduction in weight. I will tell you the harsh truth right now about my methods: it will take a long time. But really, my BMI is 23.4 and it has been that way for many years.

    I will also tell you that, unlike those fad diets that make you feel terrible, juicing does not have to be difficult. In fact, you only need to make slight changes to start losing weight. We will focus on small wins every day in the form of a slight calorie deficit by replacing unhealthy foods with healthy juices.

    You are not going to lose a lot of weight in a month, but the result might surprise you 6-12 months down the line. You are not going to feel terrible. In fact, you are going to feel great. Your mood and energy level will be elevated.

    The best part? Taking fruits and veggies does not have to be a chore with juicing. Some people (I’m also guilty of this), do not like to eat fruits and veggies, and that is totally fine! You will find recipes for juices that are, even for those who do not like fruits and veggies, at least tolerable if not enjoyable.

    On top of this, I will also include other tips to help you lose weight and keep it down in a healthy way. If that sounds like your cup of tea (or a glass of juice), then let’s begin!
