We all want to live a long life and be as healthy as possible until that final time comes. So, develop the attitude and also the will that you’re refusing to get old. Visualize it in your mind and you’ll be on the way to making positive changes in your life. I am 65 years old. There, I’ve said it because it’s not easy for me to fess up to such things although many people have told me I look younger. This book should be primarily read by guys in their 40’s and 50’s because that’s when you begin to lay a good foundation for your later years. That’s not to say it’s not important to also read this if you’re in your 60’s and 70’s. I’m now at that point like a lot of men when I really need to consider the endpoint of my life and not simply leave it all to chance.

It’s estimated the length of the human life span now is about 115 years, at least according to one researcher, Jan Vijg, but his conclusions were heavily criticized by others in the scientific community. His disputing colleagues assert it’s more like 125 or possibly there is no known fixed limit.¹ Jeanne Calment, a French woman who passed away in 1997, was confirmed to have lived 122 years. The average lifespan has pretty much doubled since 1900 but much of that rise was due to the decreasing childhood mortality rate.

Medical advances have been great but instead of worrying about tuberculosis and polio we now have to be concerned about cancer and heart disease. Cancer is the primary killer of men between ages 40 and 65, whereupon heart disease begins to take over. But here’s the scary news: it’s projected that by 2020 in the Western world cancer will take over as the leading cause of death.²
