Guided Meditation for entering the world of sleep:
Duration: 50 minutes
WHY CAN’T I SLEEP, EVEN THO I’M TIRED AS HELL!?
Does this question ever cross your mind at night when you’re trying your hardest to close your eyes and fall asleep?
What do you do?
Try harder?
Look for sleep in the places you have lost it?
Well, what if I tell you, that the most prominent reason why you can’t sleep, is your quest and thirst for it.
…and here comes my most used lines;
You cannot force yourself to fall asleep
You cannot force yourself to relax
You cannot force yourself to feel a certain way
But don’t lose hope, there’s something very important that you can do about it,
You need to open your senses to allow yourself to detach from the reality, one by one, slowly.
You need to do something else,
Enable your body to relax completely and be able to enter a different state.
One thing more;
You need to let your mind let go of thoughts and anxieties.
...and most importantly;
You have to work with your whole being, and listen to what it has to say.
This meditation will help you do just that.
For this meditation, I want you to be the director and actor of your imagination, as we are going to hunt down an entity, assuming that sleep is something that we can actually see and find. I warn you, there may be obstacles, several shut doors, but you have to allow your body and mind to get to its desired target; deep relaxation, slowly and at their own pace.
Now, we begin by making sure that there isn’t anything that can interrupt this practice and drag you back to your conscious reality.
All good?
Now lay in bed in a comfortable position.
Close your eyes,
Once that’s all taken care of, take a deep breath through your nose and hold it for two seconds. Then release it slowly through your nose again.
Breathe in deeply.
Hold, one, two.
Breathe out.
Breathe in through your nose.
Hold for two seconds.
Exhale.
Breathe in.
And breathe out.
In and out.
In and out.
I will now count to 10, and you will continue with the breathing, only this time, do not hold the breath in, just breathe in and out as calmly as possible, trying to put yourself in a more relaxing mood.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Now we have detached from our uncomfortable environment, and we can dive deeper into the meditation.
Here comes your savior; your imagination. Envision yourself in a dark abyss. You see no one, you see nothing.
You realize that you’re standing in the middle of this empty room, but it isn’t all that you have come to know.
You realize that you are not alone.
You can sense that there is something that’s keeping you company.
You deep down know that it is your thoughts, but oh, they aren’t good thoughts.
You see the dark and ugly figures with devil horns;
It’s your fears, It’s your uncertainties, It’s your anxieties.
....and there is the worst of all,
Your will of falling asleep quickly, which is singlehandedly keeping you further from relaxation, and thus feeding your anxieties.
You want to sleep but you’re aware that you can’t do it right away.
You’re aware that sleep doesn’t come naturally to you.
Now you start feeling something...
Is that frustration?
Or maybe anger?
The more you think about it, the less likely you are to drift off. Which is a good thing at this moment. I want you to focus on your thoughts and feelings for a moment.
Feel their presence.
Allow them to take over you for a minute.
Now, try to picture your thoughts as breathable beings.
They are all around you.
You can see them clearly.
The room is getting stuffy, your breathing is getting heavier.
You realize it’s your air that they are taking over.
They are breathable only because you are letting them take your air.
You want to fight them, but you feel drained.
You feel trapped, and you need to go far away.
Now, you start pushing forward.
You realize it’s harder than you imagined. It takes a lot of strength, but you are doing it anyway. You have no other choice.
