Lynn DeLong's writing journey began in middle school. After winning a trip to see "Cats" on stage for writing a poem about cat's eyes, she didn't really pick up the pen again until she was serving time in the military. At that time, she began writing her stories. In 2010, she had a small collection of stories bound in hardback for her child. That was self-printed/published/bound under Lynn's maiden name with a total run of 1. It wasn't until 2020 that Lynn felt the urge to pick up the pen again. She began studying the publishing market, joining social media, and beta reading. Eventually the beta reading shifted into reviewing and editing books. To date she has edited 10 books. In May of 2022 she published her first book. A short poetry volume titled "Nothing To Hide: Spring Poems Volume 1". Lynn wrote a poem a day for an entire year. Each poem was inspired by #VSS365. She is now working on publishing the results of her yearlong journey into poetry. The Spring volume contains poems written from March 2021 through May 2021. The next volume, Summer, is in the works and expected to be published in August of 2022, with two more volumes on the way to complete the set.Lynn DeLong met her husband in 2008. They got married in 2018. They live in Ohio close to both their families. They have a cat, Pony; and a dog, Toby. Pony and Toby both have starring roles in Lynn's blog "PonyTale" which can be found on her website. Intro
Autumn is my favorite time of year. The colors, the smells, the cooler weather, time for fires and toasty sweaters.
Spooky Season
Leaves changing, leaves falling
Autumn has come to my town
Rain pouring, sky bawling
Lightning hitting the ground
Spooky season coming fast
Pumpkin spice everything
Decorations that won't last
Skeletons hanging from a string
Candy bought, spiderwebs placed
Costuming on a budget
Make sure the candy isn't laced
Have some fun, don't begrudge it
Little goblins running amok
Walking in packs they ring the bell
From princesses and pirates to Donald duck
Costumes make the kids look swell
When the night is over and done
All the lights then go out
The kids have had so much fun
Now the ghouls can run about
Love
Love is all encompassing and never ending. True love is unconditional. Love means growth, and change.
Adult
Young, naïve, unprotected
Vulnerability¹ is expected
Slowly as the children age
They learn more, begin to change
They discover what life can be
And the truth, unfortunately
Kids all want to be an adult
They don't quite get the end result
Adulting is hard for grown-ups to do
Every day has stresses anew
Bills in a pile, errands to complete
Being an adult isn't that neat
Adults can buy what they desire
There is a limit to what they acquire
Bills paid first, then we can have fun
Unless the bills leave you with none
Stay a child little longer
Learn the tricks to make you stronger
Learn how to manage the money you make
Don't spend it all on candies and cake
Learn about credit, and what it's for
Avoid the scams outside your door
Learn how to make your life a success
Maybe you won't have as much stress
Adulting
Fret, stress, worry, pace
Lost within my own headspace
The stresses of life are too much
Here comes another that I cannot touch
Old habits begin to return
Blocking me from the peace I yearn
It's hard to break away from them
When I fail, I feel condemned
Every time I mess things up
In my life it's a flare up
It's hard to be an adult you see
No one is there to hand you the key
We as parents do our best
We put our teens to the test
They need to know how to succeed
We have to give them what they need
Teens need to make their own decisions
Learn to deal with life's provisions
We're here to guide our kids to glory
Not make their lives a horror story
Support your children, that's all I ask
Let them know you've got their back
Have talks about everything
Unconditional love for your offspring
Ally
I don't want to hurt you, or cause pain
I don't see the point, there's nothing to gain
I won't be a troll, won't put you down
I will support you, help you find your crown
I try to use the pronouns you choose
Although sometimes I get confused
It is difficult for a Gen Xer like me
To train our brains to be PC
I'm doing my best, trying so hard
I don't want you to be scarred
I am your ally through it all
I'm here to catch you if you fall
I may not be up on all of the terms
I'm here to listen to your concerns
I will learn, and fight for your right
To love who you want without fright
There's more like me out in the world
Those who care, let you know you're heard
Ignore those with nothing good to say
No point in fighting, they’re full of foul play
Love is universal, its limitations are none
No matter what others have said or done
Open your heart, open your mind
It's time for us to stop being blind
Boxed
I don’t like shoes, I don’t like socks
I don’t like living in a box
Where others place me everyday
Why can’t I live my life, my way
I rest when I need to, I do what I can
Not always enough for every man
They see me as lazy, not quite enough
My husband is made of sterner
