Lynn DeLong

Lynn DeLong's writing journey began in middle school. After winning a trip to see "Cats" on stage for writing a poem about cat's eyes, she didn't really pick up the pen again until she was serving time in the military. At that time, she began writing her stories. In 2010, she had a small collection of stories bound in hardback for her child. That was self-printed/published/bound under Lynn's maiden name with a total run of 1. It wasn't until 2020 that Lynn felt the urge to pick up the pen again. She began studying the publishing market, joining social media, and beta reading. Eventually the beta reading shifted into reviewing and editing books. To date she has edited 10 books. In May of 2022 she published her first book. A short poetry volume titled "Nothing To Hide: Spring Poems Volume 1". Lynn wrote a poem a day for an entire year. Each poem was inspired by #VSS365. She is now working on publishing the results of her yearlong journey into poetry. The Spring volume contains poems written from March 2021 through May 2021. The next volume, Summer, is in the works and expected to be published in August of 2022, with two more volumes on the way to complete the set.Lynn DeLong met her husband in 2008. They got married in 2018. They live in Ohio close to both their families. They have a cat, Pony; and a dog, Toby. Pony and Toby both have starring roles in Lynn's blog "PonyTale" which can be found on her website. Look Inside

You believe in me and I believe in you

Together we can make our dreams come true

Knowing you always have my back

Makes it easier to face feedback

Even if no one likes what I say

I’m still going to try each and every day

Each word is a way to peer into my soul

With each poem I write I feel more whole

My life has been laid out for your viewing

Soon you will know everything I’m doing

I keep no secrets I’m an open book

Everything is here, come take a look.

    Holiday

This section contains poems about Christmas and New Year’s.

    Christmas

    Birthday celebrations in full swing

Praising the birth of our king

Presents are wrapped under the tree

Waiting to bring joy and glee

Christmas has come, today is the day

For us to celebrate in our own way

Be it with family and friends, or not

It's time to party with all that you've got

A new year will be here soon

Within the turning of the moon

A year of hope and dreams fulfilled

A year when doubts and fears are stilled

My hope for you at this time

Is that you find a way to shine

Face the new year with hope and love

    Learn how to rise above

Spread love and hope this season

Find your joy, find the reason

The reason for love, the reason for hope

The reason that will help you cope

My wish for you, my heartfelt goal

Is that this year finds you whole

That you can face the fear inside

And the pain that you hide

    New

What are you becoming this year?

Face it with courage? Or huddle in fear?

Will you take a leap into the unknown?

Will you claim this year for your own?

We ask ourselves these questions tonight

And ring in the New Year with music and light

Spending time with family and friends

Hoping the love and joy never ends

Dream of what the New Year can hold

Time to go forth, time to be bold

Chase your goal with all that you are

    Perseverance will take you far

This year can be what you desire

Feed the flames, stoke the fire

Reach for the goal that sings in your heart

Keep rising up when things fall apart

Only by trying again and again

Will you find a way to break the chain

Crushing the fear that holds you back

Will set you free to attack

Chase your goal, follow your dream

Whether it be mundane or extreme

All that matters is that you try

Is that you take a chance to fly

    Presents

Pull out the paper, ribbons, and bows

Wrap the presents make their face glow

Make sure to hide everything away

And do not open till Christmas Day

Imagine the joy they will receive

Seeing the presents on Christmas Eve

The colorful packages under the tree

Their faces shine with hope and glee

    Wondering what's hidden away

Begging to open just one that day

We give in, let them open one early

There's tons for the next day, so why worry

Now some kids say they're too old

To believe in a Santa they can't behold

To me Santa is an ideal

A giving spirit with kindness and zeal

    Someone you can imitate

To make a child’s Christmas great

    The idea of Santa Claus

    Is being generous without cause

I know I will always believe
