Lynn DeLong
Lynn DeLong's writing journey began in middle school. After winning a trip to see "Cats" on stage for writing a poem about cat's eyes, she didn't really pick up the pen again until she was serving time in the military. At that time, she began writing her stories. In 2010, she had a small collection of stories bound in hardback for her child. That was self-printed/published/bound under Lynn's maiden name with a total run of 1. It wasn't until 2020 that Lynn felt the urge to pick up the pen again. She began studying the publishing market, joining social media, and beta reading. Eventually the beta reading shifted into reviewing and editing books. To date she has edited 10 books. In May of 2022 she published her first book. A short poetry volume titled "Nothing To Hide: Spring Poems Volume 1". Lynn wrote a poem a day for an entire year. Each poem was inspired by #VSS365. She is now working on publishing the results of her yearlong journey into poetry. The Spring volume contains poems written from March 2021 through May 2021. The next volume, Summer, is in the works and expected to be published in August of 2022, with two more volumes on the way to complete the set.Lynn DeLong met her husband in 2008. They got married in 2018. They live in Ohio close to both their families. They have a cat, Pony; and a dog, Toby. Pony and Toby both have starring roles in Lynn's blog "PonyTale" which can be found on her website. Intro
By the time I got finished with the publishing process for volume 1, Spring, I swore I wasn’t going to put myself, or my family, through that again. Whoops.
These poems were written in June, July, and August of 2021.
Traits
Traits
Strength, ability, confidence
Traits that empower¹ without pretense
Traits that help us to grow
Traits that keep us in the know
Seize the day, don’t be afraid
Show the world what you have made
Shout your success to the Earth
Show them all your inner worth
I know you have these traits inside
Let them out no need to hide
This world has room for everyone
To succeed and have fun
There’s no need to be depressed
When faced with another’s grand success
Your turn will come it just takes time
Center your soul, rest, refine
Having goals is a way
To stay on track every day
The fight, the struggle, fear of failure
Don’t let them change your behavior
I know you have the strength, you’ll see
Overcoming obstacles is the key
When you can’t believe in yourself
When you’re ready to clear the shelf
Please remember, setbacks are common
They happen to all and way too often
Things that come easy don’t matter as much
It’s the struggle, the fight, that brings the rush
Love
What can I say about love that hasn’t already been said by others; smarter, and more well-known than myself. Probably nothing. But, I’ll try anyway.
Arrows
Eros² I’m calling, Eros please come
We need you to make the world fun
Without love life is dismal
We need it to feel blissful
Love and hope, a promised future
Companionship, and lots of humor
I found all this and now it’s time
To shoot your arrows, make love chime
Find the pairs that need each other
Fill their lives with peace and color
Help out those that are alone
To find their happy, to be in the zone
This world needs you now more than ever
We need love that lasts forever
People are struggling, hurting, in pain
The love of another will take some of the pain
To have someone to rely on
Makes me want to awaken each dawn
It gives me a reason to continue
With all the love I have to give you
Baset
My cat is a little glutton
Acting like a little sultan
Full of hunger, she lets me know
She wants food, and I’m too slow
When we walk by her room she yowls
Begging for food she winds around
Rubbing my ankles in anticipation
Pony kitty has a food fixation
When she can see her blue bowl
She lets me know it’s time for more
Princess Baset is lurking around
Begging for food with every sound
She’s the smallest cat I know
Full of love she lets it show
Always jumping in our laps
Rubbing on us and taking naps
She loves to get our sole attention
Making the dog feel the tension
They’re both jealous of each other
Though they are working well together
Ridding my house of flying pests
Pony finds them and Toby’s the best
He eats cicadas like crunchy treats
Searching them out, he never retreats
Bound
No one can break the chain
Binding us together again
It’s stronger than ever now that you’re here
I can keep you safe there’s nothing to fear
A chain of love stretches and grows
Made of understanding it’s not meant to impose
It’s goal is to give you love and support
Not lock you away in an impenetrable fort
Chains of love shouldn’t hold you down
They should be helping get your crown
Supporting you to be your best
To show the world how you impress
Chains that bind and lock you away
Will be destroyed by my love daily
I’m always here if you need me
Full of love this is my plea
Just get out there; you do you
My love will help when you are blue
Know my love is unending
Know that tons of love I’m sending
Drowning
I feel condemned to watch you drown
To watch you flail and splash around
I reach out my hand, I can’t get through
You won’t hear my words, they can’t touch you
Your voices are screaming drowning me out
Filling you up with stress and doubt
No words from my mouth can make it better
While you sit there frustrated and fettered
The only time I can reach you
Is when you start to break through
When you fight the
