About this ebook
Earlene Teresa Vinson-Hinkle
I Am Earlene Teresa Vinson-Hinkle All my life, as far back as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of becoming a writer. Because of the many people who have crossed my path in life, I have grown to be the individual I am today. My journey through life, in many ways, is what can be seen as unfair, unjust, lonely, or maybe just hard. I see it as being blessed. Blessed with the knowledge of God, and the strength to find comfort, peace, and joy in ways many of us could not. I know what it is like to be beaten, abused, raped, violated, harassed, neglected, abandoned, betrayed, or just needing to be loved. To me life is a journey; we may not have chosen the road in front of us, but we are responsible for the path taken to reach the end of that road. Each day of my life I find comfort in helping others. Help comes in many different forms. My thought is that if I can find some way to brighten someone’s day, maybe mine will become brighter too. One of my favorite poems is the one titled “I Am” because it speaks of acceptance without change because I love myself just the way I am.

Givers and Takers
In this world we should all be givers and takers
You can give joy to those you see
You can give love when there is a need
You can give advice when you can
You can give comfort and a helping hand
You can give a smile to those who pass your way
You will give what is needed to make it through the day
When you are given that priceless gift of love, take it!
Angel
I’m an angel from Heaven
Please let me fly away
I’m an angel of Mercy
Oh help,
Lord I pray
I’m an angel of Love
May my heart be still
I’m an angel
I’m an angel
Lord, let this be real.
Peace
Silence within a crowded room
The soft scent of nature’s bloom
The gentle breeze of a warm wind
The laughter of children with no feelings to mend
A friendly smile from a neighbor
The soaring beauty of nature
One gentle hug from a passerby
No questions to ask, no questions why
No locking of doors
No storing and hiding
No brick walls
No fussing and fighting
No one
beauty
No many
beasts
No collection of terror
Always enough food for a feat
Always a helping hand
No one person can take over the land
Always a smiling face
An abundance of joy and love
For the entire human race
The Gift of the Sea
Soft and smooth as it gently tosses by
Wet and cool is its spirit of life
Blue and clear it was made to be
A comfort of glory
For some to live and others to see
A mountain of clearness with the wind at hand
An abundance of nourishment for those not of land
A glittering blanket as the sun rises and sets
An aqua framed of beauty when frozen until it melts
A never-ending world of comfort and sound
A wonder for all to share
No hurt to be found
Deep inside it has its own mountains to climb
Deep inside you’ll find mouths to feed
Deep inside you’ll feel life with meaning
Deep inside you’ll explore a different adventure
Deep inside you’ll seek that gift God has given us
A joy of wonder
A feel of success
A freedom to be found
A life to be met
A shower to embrace
A love to gain
A feeling of hunger
A sea to remain.
December 2006
Having to go through 2005 and all of its disappointments, struggles, pains, misunderstandings, manipulations, challenges, and exceptions, I wasn’t sure what to do. Now using 2006 to start fixing every inch of my life, which has been completely destroyed during 2005, or maybe it started in 2004, just maybe it started many years before. I have lost track.
Let’s start with family. I have learned a lot about family, my family. We all want to have togetherness and lots of communication, but someone always fails to keep their end of making that effort. It’s always up to someone else to make something happen. Everyone in my family expects to be accepted as they are, but the other person needs to make changes. Everyone expects to be forgiven for whatever, but they don’t always want to forgive others.
We always think we will have time to see one another, talk to one another, or visit one another. Time always gets away from us. In each family you have the planners, the caretakers, the users, the needy, and the selfish. One thing that we all usually fail to realize is that family is about love and all that comes with it.
Love means forgiveness, sharing, caring, appreciation, compromising, teamwork, cooperation, endurance, and sacrifice. If we can’t include these things in our relationships with our family members, how can we include these things in our relationship with others? What makes us give up on loving someone? How can we stop giving love and sharing love with all those who we love? When do we forgive enough to re-love
or love again? How do we let ourselves get so insecure that we don’t trust enough to love?
When it comes to love, how can we let the best thing in our life leave because we become too afraid to accept their love? How can we meet that special one if we become too afraid to take a chance? Does becoming friends make the way for a lasting romantic relationship? Can you truly remain good friends if the romantic relationship does not work? Should you go backward when it comes to love? Do you allow those who forfeit their opportunity in a relationship to get a second or third chance or more? Do you move on and not look back? Are you truly learning to love? Are you truly ready to love someone new? Can you truly give yourself and your love to someone else? When do you give up and just settle for—you should never just settle for anything in life. If God gives us the opportunity to choose, no man or woman can take that choice away from you.
Happiness, what does it mean to us? What choices do we make in order to find happiness for ourselves? Should we eliminate happiness and settle for a weird sense of contentment?
Like My Father
Like my father he was and in my heart he stays
He looked out for my interest and taught me life’s ways
He gave me some time and some words of wisdom
He laughed with me, played with me, and gave me parts of him
He took time to say hello, good-bye, and to smile
He got at me when I was wrong and disciplined me for I was his child
He always had time to say a kind word
Like my father he was in this cold, cold world
Like my father he was and I believe in my heart
He cared enough to show it even when his world was falling apart
He shared with me his dreams, his adventures, and his joys
He asked for nothing more than to return the love
which he himself showed
He blessed me with laughter and many treasures to keep
He blessed me with love even while I was asleep
He held my hand and he wiped my tears
He carried me through some really rough years
He was always there when I needed him close
Like my father he was, and he was the most
A Part of Me (part 1)
It started out from laughter
Smiles and hugs
It grew into caressing
Kissing and kissing some more
It moved to undressing
Touching and loving the touch
It advanced to insertion
Of that warm and cuddling hallway of desire
Here streams of comfort burn like fire
In the mist of ecstasy
In the stream of desire
Flows the spear of life
Moving toward its target
At last they meet and bond forever
Now he grows inside
On a monthly wage
On a time-triggered sentence
For each passing day
It becomes time to break free
From his inner bondage
Now I can gaze into his eyes
His face so small
Little bitty feet
Little hands and all
Little bitty hairs
Upon his head
Little treasure of love
Is mine to share
Now my greatest joy has let me
But in my arms he lay
What shall I name him?
Where will he go?
What will he say?
Who do I call?
What will he be?
All I know
He is my son, a part of me.
A Part of Me (part 2)
Four weeks of flutters
Movements and stirs
Four weeks of guessing
Growing and worrying woes
Four weeks of binging
Craving and purging more
Four weeks of growing
Moving and eating some more
Now I hear her heart beat
A soft joyous sound
Now I feel her body
As she moves around
Now I see her whole
From head to toe
Now she is ready to depart
Her warm watery bed
At last my baby is born
And I know who she is
A treasure sent from heaven
A gift that gives
She is my daughter, a part of me she is.
Marriage
You are about to enter into a life which should be filled with treasures
And love is the most valuable of them all
From this day forward you should look for your blessings
Because they will come big and small
Your grass should always be the greenest of them all
No one’s fence is taller and no one’s house is bigger
Because no one’s treasure is worth more than yours
Enjoy what you have and take it all to heart
The two of you will live together forever in love
And never fall apart
Remember, dreams really do come true and nothing is completely impossible if you just believe!
Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interest, and does not become provoked. It does not rejoice
