About this ebook

Each day we are embarking upon another yeara new opportunity to really look at our life, how we are living it, and decide if we like what we are observing. We have even a greater opportunity to improve our lives and be happier than we have heretofore imagined. We can start today, not by looking back, or by looking ahead, but simply looking within and paying attention. If we keep writing and mentally rehearsing the same old script, the scenes of the play will be repetitious. If change is what we want, then we must rewrite the script. The Bible states it is done unto us as we believe. How complicated is that? Take inventory, check out what the mind is inwardly telling you, and without doubt you will know precisely what you believe. It requires us to be fully present with ourselves, like the good shepherd watching and taking care of his flock. Remember, it serves no one to be beaten up or put down. Each day has a lifetime within itself. Endless possibilities!
This book is designed to encourage all the readers to be their authentic self and to know that being in Love with Gods creation is not sinful.

    About the Author

    DEDICATION

To my baby Chicken, Dr. Alfreda L. Turner.

I thank you for loving me beyond the actions of my youth. I thank you for being a person of integrity. Also, I thank you for your straightforwardness, because I know the bottom line of your messages is your profound love for family, friends, children, and community.

When challenging times came our way, you held steady. You became the cornerstone of encouragement in rebuilding my desire to live. You helped me remember life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by being fully engaged in living.

    Thank you, Chicken.

    a.k.a. Ms. Louvinda

To Baby-John, Johnette Jones Morton, my sister, my friend, my spiritual mentor. Thank you for opening up the door to a new way of thinking and being. I felt I was once lost, and you threw me a lifeline. I became stronger and better as I learned to open to Spirit and allowed that Love to fill my heart and soul. You have loved me and taken care of me since my birth, and I am eternally grateful. Thank you for being so kind and loving. It is wonderful to explore life’s paths with you.

To my baby Brother, Johnnie D. Turner. From the moment I saw you, I loved you. I want you to know how much I respect you. You remind me so much of Daddy. I have never heard either of you say anything negative about anyone. Your sense of humor is unmatchable, and I thank you for the joy you have always brought to my life with your gentle, quiet spirit and profound love of life, and golf! Keep swinging, Love!

All of You have been so inspirational in helping me make the dreams of writing come true. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Your sister and friend to the end, or the next beginning,

    Alma.

    Preface

    Dear Ones,

GrandLady is my title of choice. It is another word for Grandmother, Grandma, Nanna, or Granny. It is particularly a special word because the relationship between elder and child is not based on a biological connection, but rather on Love and Acceptance. It was derived when my daughter, Malena, asked what I wanted my grandchildren to call me. I could not immediately give her an answer, but she was quite insistent on getting one. She was a planner, and this answer was part of a major plan in her life that she did not know would be short-lived. She transitioned at age thirty-three, the same year this conversation took place. After due consideration to her inquiry, I told her, GRANDLADY. She was thrilled with my choice.

After Malena transitioned from this earthly existence, I lamented that I would never have a child call me GrandLady. This sorrow changed to joy when my younger sister, Alfreda Turner, embraced her only child, Joshua Allen Turner. One of our many discussions was that Joshua did not have any living grandparents. What initially seemed like a slight misfortune became a glorious opportunity. You see, our parents had always delighted in having grandchildren. At any given moment, they would share their unconditional love, patience, generosity, and wisdom. Not wanting Joshua to miss out on being spoiled the right way and me wanting to experience that type of grandparent role, I volunteered, and Alfreda (Chicken) accepted.

I am now GrandLady to Joshua Allen Turner, Nila Alena Marie Williams, Zy’Asia Renee Hendley, MyKayla Genea Shields, Julian Donelle Shields, and Zion De’Shaun Mitchell. I have three other grandchildren from a previous marriage that still call me Grandma or Ma. They are Namon Crowder, Devin Crowder, and Donica Merriman. Grandma was a title placed upon me, and although their grandfather is deceased, I continue to value my special relationship with each.

I have thought long and hard about writing each individually, but what I desire to share applies to the young, the not so young, and those that have lived beyond the written promised years. There are informational tools I wish had been shared with
