Author’s Note
Dedication
I dedicate this book to my parents, my children, Oprah, Ellen and Victor.
My mother, Shirley Craft, and I couldn’t be more different, but we do share our love of God, the need to be kind, and the belief in the importance of family. I have always been the fearless dreamer, and my mother has been the grounded and careful beacon in my life. She was always there shining her light to bring me back home if I strayed too far in my journey of ideas and aspirations. I didn’t like it and would sometimes feel misunderstood and resentful. In hindsight, I know I needed the constant, unchanging, and safe place in my life my mother always offered and unconditionally provided. She provided a home in every sense of the word, the kitchen being the heart of it. It has always been filled with love, baked breads, and homemade cookies. Our talks still entail putting on a pot of tea and her offering me something to eat before getting into a much-needed session of receiving her advice and usually some biblical scripture. This I will be forever grateful for. Thank you, Mom, for providing me with the stability, love, and your beautiful grace over the years, which every child should be so fortunate to be blessed with. I dedicate this book to you.
My heart is devastated by the loss of my father, George Bud
Craft, whom I lovingly called Papa. I know you are with me and will see that I actually finished my book!
My father and I were very similar yet very different. We shared the same dark humor, loved the same music, had free spirits, and enjoyed deep, philosophical discussions that would run late into the night. He offered me advice without judgment and was my biggest supporter, regardless of what dream I was pursuing.
The following quote from Hunter S. Thompson best describes how my father lived:
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a ride!’
He raised me to play hard, work hard, love deeply, and fight for the pursuit of my dreams. He was not one to teach with talk but with action, and he showed me how to do many things. He was far from perfect, but I learned a lot from his imperfect choices. My father was my rock, my person, and my anchor in this life. This book is dedicated to you.
There has never been a more dramatic awakening than parenthood thus far in my spiritual awakening and life experience. My children, Jaymes Craft and Victoria Daigle, have taught me more lessons than I could have ever provided either of them. This book was inspired by my need to share my wisdom and love with you both.
Jaymes, I am so grateful for the spirited and feisty fire you have within you. This has made you a strong and powerful woman. You have one of the most sensitive hearts I know, and I am so grateful for the twelve-year journey we shared together prior to me finding my soul mate. You grounded me and taught me to be responsible, and had it not been for you, I don’t think I would have finished my university degree. I didn’t have the self-esteem to put myself first, but by making your needs a priority, I began to have higher expectations of myself and others. I learned to be more honest with myself, and I learned what unconditional love looks like and the importance of creating boundaries so you would know what respect and self love looked like. I hope you will enjoy reading this book and it will continue to gently guide you in your life’s journey.
Victoria, I am so grateful for the openness and intuitive awareness you have been gifted with. You are one of the gentlest souls I have known on this earth. You were more of a challenge prior to gracing this earth than you have been since being born. You helped me to see that I was stronger and braver than I knew. You showed me the importance of trusting my own intuitive gift. I found an inner strength I had not known and a drive to live a bigger, more fulfilling, and present life. You have such a beautiful light and generous heart. You will grow to do great and wonderful things on this earth.
Thank you both for giving me the tools I needed to be the woman I am today. I am a strong, fearless, and confident woman. I believe in my intuition because of you. I hope you will see this book as my legacy of life to share with your children.
Thank you to my life mentor, Oprah Winfrey, who has always spoken the language of my soul. I am so deeply grateful to you for providing me with the words I needed to give my spirit a voice. I was once in a place where I felt as though I never related to others and they didn’t relate to me, but I related to you from the very first time I saw you because I too had a name no one else I knew had.
