Improve Your Health With Apple, Guava and Mango - Rajeev Sharma
MANGO (AAM)
Mango’s taste is sweet and a little sour, and very nourishing too. Mango’s name ‘Amriphala’ in ancient treatises bespeaks of its great nutritive value. Its quality varies with growth. Raw mango is sour and astringent and produces wind and bile in the body. The peeled raw mangoes cut in pieces are dried in sun to produce Amchoor. Amchoor is sour and astringent in taste and is carminative, antiphlegmatic and checks wind problems. Ripe mango is an extremely tasty and nutritive fruit. A normal-sized mango is more nourishing for the human body than butter or almonds. It strengthens and invigorates all the nerves, tissues, muscles in the brain, heart and other parts of the body. It is anti-bilious, anti-phlegmatic and anti-acidic. It is carminative and can be easily digested. It is also known to be an effective general tonic and blood-purifier. It cleans the body of the filth within and is an ideal antidote for all toxic effects inside the body.
‘Desi’ mango is very good for health. It is better to suck the mango than to slice it into pieces and eat. Mango and milk make an ideal combination as milk provides protein, which is not there in mango. Not only does it keep the body in good shape, but also provides sufficient resistance to fight any germs and afflictions.
Mango is not only liked and relished as raw fruit but is also used to make many tasty, delicious preparations like salads, chutney, murabba, pickles, aamras, halva, burfi, kulfi, aam papad, shreekhanda, etc. Every part of the mango tree - root, stem, bark, the blossom, fruits - have some medicinal properties. Besides, mango is used for many other purposes:
Mango leaves are tied and decorated as ‘Vandanvar’ on all religious and auspicious occasions.
Mango twig is kept in utensil filled with water on auspicious ceremonies.
Mango’s wood is considered very sacred for sacrifices.
Blossoms of Mango (Manjari) are offered to gods.
Mango’s wood is used for making doors, stools and other furniture.
Dried leaves of mango are used as fuel.
Manure prepared with the help of rotten mango leaves is used in fields.
Overeating mangoes
If you overeat mangoes, consider the following options:
Have a few Jamuns over it.
Take cumin seeds water over it.
Have South powder with water over it.
Have ground roasted cumin seeds with rock salt over it.
Note
Mango should not be eaten empty stomach.
Too much consumption of mangoes leads to indigestion, constipation, gaseous troubles, blood impurities and eye-troubles.
Water should never be taken after eating mangoes.
