Rewire Your Life - Chris Boutte

Life is filled with struggles, and we often don't know how to get through each day. Sometimes, we get overwhelmed, and it feels like we can't catch a break and that things will never get better. This is how I lived most of my life, and it was absolute misery. I was suffering from addiction, depression, and anxiety, and I went to sleep most nights hoping that I wouldn't wake up in the morning.

Today, I wake up each morning with gratitude because I have a life worth living today. The best part is that life still comes with the stresses and challenges that I previously experienced, but I've been able to learn how to cope in a much better way. Whether it's the loss of a job, issues with relationships, money problems, or my mental health, I know that I can get through it.

And trust me, I get it. When I used to read stuff like this, I'd think it was cheesy or say, Well, that's great that it worked for you, but my situation is different. The reality is that we all have much more in common than we think, and that's what I want you to remember as you read this collection of writings.

When I first started on this journey, I learned about terminal uniqueness, which is when we think we're so different that it can keep us in our suffering or even kill us. In order to get out of the hole we're in, we need to start seeing the similarities instead of the differences.

Throughout each of these writings, you'll notice that I share some personal stories and how I've had a change in my perspective over these years of turning my life around. As you read, my hope for you is that you can find ways to relate even if your situations aren't exactly the same. Maybe you weren't the child of an alcoholic mom, or maybe you didn't have the same types of issues with your relationships. But the reality is that if you're reading this book, I can guarantee you can relate to the thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

I'm not a therapist or psychologist, either, so you'll see me talking quite a bit about the importance of therapy because it's one of the many tools that I've used. Although I'm not a licensed mental health professional, I've worked with thousands of people who have struggled by sharing my personal experience and what I've learned, and hopefully, you'll be able to find some solutions as well.

In 2019, I became a Certified Life Coach, and I also read as much as I can because knowledge is one of the best tools we have against our suffering. I read hundreds of books each year, so you'll see evidence-based research throughout this book as well as some teachings from various realms of philosophy.

Each chapter in this book has actionable steps you can take to begin turning your life around. Whether they're different ways of changing your perspective or activities you can do to improve your well-being, you'll find something that works for you. And these writings aren't in any specific order, so you can read it from start to finish or skip around to chapters that seem the most interesting to you and your situation.

So, as you read this book, be sure to keep an open mind, be ready to take action, and step up to the challenge of questioning some of your prior beliefs about yourself and the ways you see the world.

And don't forget that if nothing changes, nothing changes.

It wasn't long ago when I wanted to die. I was a drug addict and alcoholic. I lost all my friends and family, and I wasn’t even allowed to see my son. That combined with my extreme depression and crippling anxiety, I was suicidal. I was completely hopeless, but something happened. Something happened inside me, and this switch flipped.

My life isn’t perfect today (who’s is?), but it’s a million times better than it used to be. Since recovering from my addiction and keeping my depression and anxiety at bay, I’ve been trying to analyze myself so I can help others. Since turning my life around, I haven’t been able to figure out what happened to me, and it’s something I think about all the time.

As someone who has found meaning and purpose in helping others, I want to figure out what that secret ingredient is, so I can give it to others. Even if it’s something I can’t
