A New Light Shines

About this ebook
For years, Tad Corbet has written verses, sayings, and odes about life based on his work, first as a minister, then as a clinical psychologist with the people [he] met along lifes way, whose painful emotional experiences and/or whose fun times elicited most of the responses in this book.
The only reason most moments in life are not among the best is because of ourselves.
I was young and had some dreams. Too ideal, many said. And I had a tendency and a temptation to let them go but never did. If I had, I may have died and never lived the life that is truly me. So if you seem to have lost your way, look backward and rediscover the ideals of your youth.
These two verses reflect central themes of A New Light Shines: self-acceptance and self-reliance.
If you like the book, tell your friends. If you dont, refer it to your enemies.
Tad Corbet
So it is that Tad Corbet gently directs us on our way to self-knowledge and self-acceptance in this collection of sayings, odes, and verses.

DEDICATION
To the people I met along life’s way whose painful emotional experiences and/or whose fun times elicited most of the responses contained in this book, to PRISS WHO PUT UP WITH ME, to Frank for advice, to Frances and Londa for art, and to a dead butterfly who has no name and resides in a frame on the wall in my bedroom.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
This gathering of sayings, odes, verse, or whatever is not necessarily in order. It saves those divisions like chapters. Besides, there ain’t no obvious order to this stuff. Just tell your friends to buy the book if you like it. If you do not like the book, refer it to your enemies.
A book MUST have a table of contents.
INTRODUCTION
ON A SET WAY OF DOING THINGS
You are a writer. Ever think of putting the subject at the end? If people are not surprised then you wrote good and have a good subject.
Wonder if people would buy a book with no subject? That is, tell your friends to go to the book store and buy that book with a blank cover which was written by an unknown author.
HOW MANY PAGES TO A GOOD BOOK?
I am writing a book,
one says to a friend.
How long is it going to be?,
the friend asks.
What a strange question. If one is just filling pages then who would want to read it? It would be better to just stop when all worthwhile has been written.

It matters not how much you have said, but rather have you said anything worthwhile. If you are looking for a weight lifting exercise this book will not work—better go to the gym.
BUTTERFLY ONE
If you never said anything or wrote anything
for which you were laughed at
for which you were scorned
for which you were fired from a job
YOU PROBABLY HAVE NEVER
SAID OR
WRITTEN
ANYTHING WORTHWHILE
OR YOU HAVE BEEN VERY SELECTIVE TO WHOM YOU TALK OR LET READ WHAT YOU WRITE!
"It is just not in my
nature to be careful"
REFLECTIONS AFTER DEATH
(from a Butterfly)
I was such a happy butterfly
born so near a flower garden
And then there came that S.O.B. with a net
He saved my beauty between some glass
but smashed me
Watch out for people with nets
who love
butterflies
Lovers of beauty and righteousness
will often KILL YOU
You will know them because
they will stop you,
by whatever means,
from having any nectar
But even at that, Butterflies
are better than humans - -
HUMANS CAN NET THEMSELVES!
ABOUT THOUGHTS FROM ON HIGH
Some ELDERLY say—
"My thoughts are from on high because they are my standards and thoughts, therefore, they have to be near perfect.
If my thoughts are not from on high then I might find out that I have lived a narrow, prejudiced, hypocritical life—these (my) thoughts must be from on high!"
Note: Be careful about reevaluating your life when you get older—be sure you can handle it. Many elderly spend much time defending their positions on everything and set their positions in concrete.
Many older folks still allow for thinking. What is worse is to see the young and middle aged who are sure their thoughts are from on high.

Some RELIGIOUS LEADERS say—
My thoughts are from on high because they are from above—and they must be good—up is good—down is bad..! I am right and all others are wrong or certainly mostly wrong. My thoughts are from on high. It is so nice knowing that most things I say are the very words of God.
(Woe to the person who finds out that up and down are not so clear cut. Wonder if one gets where there is no difference between thoughts from on high and their political views?)
Some WHITE PEOPLE say—
My thoughts are from on high because they are white thoughts and they are not colored thoughts—not red, yellow, brown, or black. There is something so pure about white—something so true.
(Yes, I remember that clans that kill people and burn crosses wear white robes. Wonder how many evil deeds have been committed in the name of white?—or in the name of National Security?)
Our very high and white thoughts are very careful with how we view and treat colored minorities.
(There may be a nervous breakdown by many who come to the realization that white people are a minority on this planet)
The CAPITALIST says—
My thoughts are from on high because they have and/or will lead to making money—if they were not money making thoughts then they would not be of any WORTH. Anyone knows that worth and material gain are about the same.
(Hope it does not come as a shock that a few of us poor souls are rejecting money and material things as the meaning of life.)
The POWER PEOPLE say..
"My thoughts are from on high because I said so and I can enforce them. Do not question my sayings nor my power because you will find out how wrong your thoughts must be—you will be defeated and find out that power is right and from on high.
(One might remember that according to this definition Hitler’s thoughts must have been from on high. You do not have to be a Hitler to think and act in terms of power and to take away human rights, dignity, and life— nearly anyone with power and position can do it— sometimes for a long time.)

POSITION
Many people get messed on because they have their heads right under and/or up someone’s rear. And for some unknown reason will often continue to position themselves in the same spot—and then express surprise when they get the same results.
HOW YOU WEIGH THINGS
It is all in how you weigh things
If you over weigh things
then that will be a mistake
If you under weigh things
then that will result in
a disappointment for sure
You are weighing things all the time
whether you like it or not
Better check out the old scales
every once in awhile
