About this ebook

This workbook is a tool for you to use based on the book WTF I’m Trying to Be Spiritual: A Guidebook for
Loving Yourself without Fear and is a stepping stone to greater self-awareness. This workbook is an honest look at our need to create self-love that in turn reflects on our daily lives and our relationship with the world.
Along the way, readers are asked to gently try quieting their minds via meditation by examining meditation techniques through a personal-preference questionnaire. Other tools, such as the redirection of one’s thoughts and the creation of affirmations, are included to get the reader started in a more positive frame of mind along with creating and writing lists for establishing boundaries with others
as well as themselves.

In addition, exercises related to the practices of love—Flexibility, Non-Judgment, Willingness, Courage, Relinquishing Control, and Integrity/Honesty/Personal Responsibility—are provided. Finally, thought-provoking questions touch on mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness (or lack thereof ). All this is combined to give a wide range of ideas and thoughts without being limiting.

This workbook is an invitation to value the wonderful person you are.

Jeanette Bishop, retired cardiology physiologist, active healer, and medium with a wealth of experience in humanity and no belief in herself, finally decided to “come out” as a medium and a spiritual explorer with coauthor and her best buddy, Helen Varga. Bishop’s diverse, out-of-the-box spiritual communications rocks everyone’s boat, challenges the mediocre, and brings about a truth so simple yet labyrinthine as it expands. This is just the beginning.

Helen Varga with her best friend, Jeanette Bishop, formed Kiss and Tell Creative Productions to tackle taboo subjects through workshops and books. Seeing and sensing God since a small child, she mentored under Bishop to develop her spiritual awareness.

    Introduction

To love yourself is to value your being.

A profound statement since not everyone is aware of the reality of love. We know how to value ourselves; we believe we deserve this chocolate bar or that drink and so on. However, that isn’t love; it’s gratification of our senses. We tend to look for ways to make the bad things in life go away and to make it seem our lives are okay.

There’s a difference between self-love and self-absorption. Self-absorbed people make everything all about them. They turn conversations or arguments around to make themselves the victims or make themselves feel more important, and they leave little room for others and their needs. If you turn to love and develop it inwardly, you’ll no longer be looking to others for love. You’ll share yourself and have healthy boundaries and relationships with others and yourself.

    Why Self-Love?

    • You’ll no longer need others’ validation.

    • You’ll no longer be needy and look to others for love; you won’t be desperate and end up in divorce court with someone you’ll wish were dead.

    • You won’t give validity to others’ opinions of you (unless it comes from a place of integrity).

    • You’ll realize that any one person out of the 7 billion inhabitants in the world doesn’t know everything (including about you).

    What Is Self-Love?

    • It’s valuing your (and others’) being.

    • It’s nurturing yourself.

    • It’s allowing yourself to experience love and joy.

    When Should I Practice Self-Love?

    • Always!

    • When you’re feeling anxious, fearful, doubtful, and the like.

    • When you’re critical of yourself.

    Where Should I Practice Self-Love?

    • At home.

    • During sex.

    • At work (yes, not smacking or disrespecting even a real annoying coworker is a form of self-love because you avoid jail).

    • At play (yes, that includes sex).

    • On vacations, holidays, and family dinners.

    • Even on the toilet.

    How Do I Practice Self-Love?

    • by establishing boundaries

    • by meditating

    • by redirecting thoughts and using affirmations

    • by using the practices of love

    ○ by being flexible and nonjudgmental

    ○ by being courageous

    ○ by relinquishing control

    ○ by being honest, full of integrity, and personally responsible

If you’re under emotional distress or have mental health or physical issues, seek proper medical and professional aid (including advice, care, and treatment) so you can heal. This workbook is not intended to diagnose, prescribe, or replace medical or professional care (physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and the like); it’s just a stepping stone to help you get off your butt and do something nice for yourself. A true act of self-love is learning to love yourself.

We hope during this journey you’ll get to know yourself better and know you’re a wonderful human being. And along the way, you’ll find tidbits of our own journeys to help you on your way.

It’s about looking at your belief system; it just might be holding you back from an unlimited relationship with unconditional self-love. You don’t have to sacrifice and limit who you are and what you can create in your life; that’s a myth. We’ll be asking you to answer a bunch of questions to help you raise your awareness of who you are and what you’re feeling and maybe give you a giggle in the process! If we’re successful, you’ll raise your awareness of the unseen as well as the seen as you become aware of the minute details of your feelings and senses.

Don’t hesitate at all to scribble, doodle, and jot down random thoughts and the like; this is your creative force coming alive in you. Give yourself permission to be you. This book is for you to do whatever you feel is right, no holds barred – including writing all over it, even throwing it. We simply want you to do whatever you need to find yourself and stop playing hide and seek with your beautiful self. Don’t worry about skipping parts or working through it randomly; do what’s right for you. It’s a journey, and all good journeys take time. Be patient with yourself; permit yourself the time to learn about you.

We’re all so concerned about wearing masks to please others, to be part of a tribe, and to deny our inner beauty. It’s time for a change; it’s time we all love ourselves as we are, rid our minds of the negative self-talk, open up to the bounty of our creative awareness, and become ourselves in a positive way.

Remember, this is your journey. We do, however, encourage you to seek medical advice and professional help if you’re having difficulties on your journey toward healing.

    Chapter 1

    Self-Awareness

What’s self-awareness? It’s a term often used in many circles, but what does it really mean? The word self is easy to understand, but for some, it has no meaning other than giving their selves to those who may control them. So then, what does self mean?

    • personality

    • nature

    • character

    • person

    • identity

    • experiences

    • perceptions

    • emotions

    • thoughts

Those who have lost their selves will have lost their sense of self. The self can be a slave to those we love or even hate! Where is your self? Can you pinpoint where you are in the structure of your personality, identity, and person?

Awareness is a simple word, but for many, its meaning is objective—defined by others’ standards rather than their own.
