    Introduction

There is little or no enzyme-producing minerals or vitamins in the types of foods. You can easily buy junk food from the shelves. Most of these modern diet has a lot of additives and food colors added to enhance the food flavor, its texture, and increase shelf life.

    Modern diet and human health

    Your diet reflects your current physical activity, life expectancy, and the situation you live in. As countries shift to become more urbanized with increased levels of industrialization, there are diverse ways of human life and increased risk of chronic diseases.

    We have abandoned our traditional highly nutritious foods and replaced them with our man-made modern diet. Although the modern processed diet is more convenient, it has adverse effects on our health.

    As processed food has become part of our daily life, our health has been deteriorating leading to increased cases of lifestyle diseases.

    There are high cases of coronary heart diseases, diabetes, and high risks of certain types of cancers in urban areas. According to the World Health Organization, there are over 700 million people globally who are obese.

    Obesity is linked to other diseases such as type 2 diabetes, kidney diseases, stroke, fatty liver diseases, and hypertension. Some other health risks include depression, sleep apnea, and changes in hormones.

    The western diet rich in fat and sugar kills the essential bacteria responsible for maintaining good gut health. Your digestive tract houses good micro-organisms or microbiomes that are essential for maintaining the healthy body metabolism.
